About the role
The Forterra product development team seeks a Manufacturing Engineer with a focus on PCB assembly and surface mount technology (SMT). This includes managing and operating an assembly line, providing design-for-assembly (DFA) feedback, and maintaining an organized inventory of components. You will partner with buyers, shipping & receiving, 3rd party board houses, and design engineers to make our designs a reality. Forterra is a fast-growing company at the early stages of growth. Consistent with this fast growth, members of the product team must be resourceful, creative, and eager to take ownership of complex matters. The Manufacturing Engineer role will require creativity and resourcefulness to navigate the changing demands of the business and stay focused under pressure. In addition to operating manufacturing equipment, you will support others in every stage, from design to procurement to receiving to build to test and rework. Experience across all these areas is not expected, but a willingness to learn and adapt is.
What you"ll do
Manage, operate, and maintain low-volume SMT assembly lines.
Work with equipment vendors to source, install, and maintain equipment.
Provide detailed DFA feedback to design team.
Coordinate supply chain and operations to quickly turn around designs.
Create and sustain an organized inventory of electronic components, circuit boards, and assembly equipment.

Preferred Qualifications
Strong communicator who can provide detailed design-for-assembly (DFA) feedback.
Collaborative mindset; can coordinate supply chain and engineering to get products built.
Agile – able to quickly meet the changing demands of the business and effectively prioritize incoming build requests.
Organized – Can create and sustain an organized inventory of electronic components, circuit boards, and assembly equipment.
Working knowledge of IPC-A-610, able to identify defects.
Soldering & SMT rework ability, experience testing assembled boards, experience developing Lean manufacturing processes, relationship with 3rd party fabrication houses.
Education & Experience
Minimum 3 years working in PCB assembly environment.
Working knowledge of surface mount technology (SMT) and PCB assembly.
Experience operating and troubleshooting PCB assembly manufacturing equipment.
Experience working with equipment vendors to source, install, and maintain equipment.
US Salary Range $115,000—$135,000
Location
On-Site in Clarksburg, MD - 5 Days / Week
The salary range for this role is an estimate and is based on a wide variety of compensation factors. The salary offered to candidates will vary based on a variety of factors including (but not limited to) relevant work experience, education, specialized training, critical expertise, training, and more.
