Title: Tooling Engineer for Molds

Job Summary:

The tooling engineer for molds is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining tooling (molds) used in production. This role requires expertise in molds design, materials, and manufacturing processes to ensure high-quality, cost-effective, and efficient production.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, and optimize molds for injection molding and other manufacturing processes.
  • Ensure molds are designed for durability, ease of use, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Ensure mold designs meet product quality and dimensional requirements.
  • Oversee the manufacturing and fabrication of molds, ensuring quality standards are met.
  • Work with suppliers and vendors to source materials and components for tooling.
  • Ensure that molds are produced on time and within budget.
  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules for molds and tooling.
  • Troubleshoot and repair molds when required, minimizing downtime in the production process.
  • Ensure molds are cleaned and maintained to extend their lifespan and functionality.
  • Analyze results from mold tests, identifying any design flaws and recommending improvements.
  • Perform root cause analysis for mold-related production issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Work closely with the production team to address any molding or tooling issues during the manufacturing process.
  • Communicate effectively with suppliers, vendors, and external contractors regarding mold design and production.
  • Continuously seek ways to improve mold design and production processes to reduce costs and increase efficiency.
  • Prepare detailed reports on mold performance, improvements, and any issues encountered.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety, quality, and environmental regulations.

Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Expertise in designing molds and tooling for manufacturing processes such as injection molding.
  • Strong knowledge of CAD software (e.g., Solidworks, Autocad).
  • Ability to develop and implement maintenance programs for molds to extend their lifespan and minimize production delays.
  • Strong communications, both oral and written, and interpersonal skills required.

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field.
  • 5 years of tool design experience in tooling engineering or a related field, particularly in the design, development, and maintenance of molds.
  • 5 years' experience utilizing 3D CAD software.
  • Experience with root cause analysis, troubleshooting, and implementing corrective actions based on test results.

Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods of sitting or standing.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization's facilities.
