The Artificial Perception & Threat Awareness (APTA) division at SARA is making the future of Aerospace and Autonomy happen now, with a charter to create new and emerging sensor perception technologies for Commercial & Military markets. The APTA Division is seeking a visionary Senior Systems Architect to lead transformative projects from our Cypress, CA location. At SARA the Systems Architect is a senior leadership role with a scope that spans high level business interests to management of technical details. You will manage stakeholders and lead a development team.
Core Responsibilities:
Strategic Design:
Define missions by understanding challenges and opportunities
Develop architectures that integrate sensors, AI and real-time processing
Technical Execution:
Decompose systems so that design engineers can build and test them
Own the design process and execution
Lead integration of low-SWaP subsystems for rugged, real-world performance
Innovation & Leadership:
Propose novel, patentable technologies like AI-enhanced detection
Guide teams, mentor talent, and align designs with DoD/FAA needs
Validation:
Oversee simulations, prototypes, and field tests against real threats
Resolve complex challenges to advance APTA's goals
Requirements:
An exceptional record of system development
A Master's degree in software, electrical, mechanical, aerospace engineering, or related field
10+ years total experience, including 5+ years as Systems Architect and 5+ years in a specialized field (e.g. Acoustics, AI, big data, embedded design)
Expertise in low-SWaP systems for UAS or avionics
Background in two or more of: Acoustics/Audio, Cameras, RF design, Signal Processing, AI integration
Exceptional communication and pitching skills
U.S. Citizen, able to obtain DoD clearance
May require light physical effort, involving standing, sitting and using hands while performing duties, carrying or lifting up to 50 pounds
Preferred Qualifications:
A PhD in a relevant field
15+ years of Systems Architect experience
Proficiency in MATLAB, Simulink, C/C++ or Python
Strong record of software/firmware development
Strong record of complex FPGA and PCB development
Strong record of Cloud development
Active DoD Secret clearance

Pay Range:
Salary at SARA is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual's particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $170,000 to $220,000 (annualized USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of SARA's total compensation package for employees. Positions are on-site, unless indicated otherwise.
