Job Summary
Department-Specific Responsibilities
Serves as a consistent contact for 21st Century Scholars throughout their educational experience, providing a reliable means of support and clear pathway to seek out assistance.
Supports university recruitment, admission, retention, and graduation efforts by partnering with campus units to work with 21 Century Scholars from the time they are identified as a prospect in the admission cycle through and beyond graduation.
Provides direct, proactive, and early intervention to 21st Century Scholars by leveraging systems and data to identify and intervene with potential issues before they occur, and to celebrate their successes.
Educates students on 21st Century Scholar eligibility requirements (e.g., 30 credit hour completion, state FAFSA filing deadline, Satisfactory Academic Progress, Scholar Track account, appeals, etc.), monitors their progress, and maintains confidential student records.
Helps 21st Century Scholars navigate the institution and its various systems by liaising with faculty and staff on advising, peer mentoring, tutoring, career counseling, campus activities, internships, research opportunities, multicultural affairs, first-year seminars, financial aid counseling, personal counseling, student employment options, scholarships, and various support programs.
Coaches 21st Century Scholars in developing organizational and time-management skills; understanding their own learning style; developing study skills; discovering their strengths, interests, and motivations; establishing mechanisms to enhance social involvement, and creating action plans to achieve academic, career, and personal goals.
Focuses on understanding and developing best practices in service and experience excellence to enhance their approach with student success coaching.
Monitors and records progress of individual students in assigned caseload, maintaining consistent, accurate and confidential records of individual student data.
Provides individualized outreach to students based on identified risk factors including academic, financial, and personal, following early support research-based and data-driven practices.
Assists in the development, implementation, and evaluation of events, programs, and resources that support and celebrate 21st Century Scholars.
Develops and implements effective communication plans using a variety of software programs.
Serves as the office lead for programming related to 21st Century Scholars.
Develops and maintains collaborative partnerships with faculty and campus departments including academic advising, career services, campus life, financial aid, Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, academic support, and the campus library.
Actively participates on various committees as appropriate and requested.
Represents IU and IUE Office of Student Success at local, state, and national meetings, conferences, and in professional associations as appropriate and requested.
Joins a cohort of success coaches that come together from all IU campuses to identify opportunities for collaboration, share best practices, and assist with the continuous development of student success initiatives across the IU landscape in collaboration with the Office of the Vice President for Student Success.
Participates in initial and on-going training efforts with the IU success coach cohort.
Works collectively to establish quantitative and qualitative data points to measure student success coaching efforts and uses information to inform future development of success initiatives.
Leverages experiences in success coaching to inform the development and implementation of new and existing systems to better support success efforts.
Identifies opportunities to partner with IU leadership and other campus units on shared training efforts to approach consistent or shared student challenges.
Develops support materials and communications with support from campus partners.
Represents the 21st Century Scholars program at various campus, university, and state events.
General Responsibilities
Develops and implements programs and initiatives that offer support for students in crisis, facing adversity or challenges, or who belong to an under-represented or minority student population.
Interfaces directly with students by attending student programming events, advising student organization leaders, meeting 1:1 to discuss support needs, and gathering satisfaction feedback from student participants to implement into future student services initiatives and objectives. Places an emphasis on confidentiality of student concerns, university policy compliance, and a culture of care within all direct student interactions.
Collaborates with staff in own department and other departments, as well as academic and campus leaders, on shared student support goals, often coordinating funding to sponsor student programs and initiatives.
Projects outcomes for support services offered at the program, department/division, or campus level. Measures and evaluates effectiveness of student support initiatives against projected outcomes; may prepare reports on impact to students and budget and may present to stakeholders on effectiveness and to secure funding for initiatives moving forward.
May serve on committees and perform student support research across the field of higher education and at peer institutions to identify and recommend best practices.
Plans and coordinates communications for student support initiatives to ensure student participation, inclusion, and engagement.

EDUCATION
Required
Bachelor's degree in education, public affairs, public health, counseling, social work, business, or a related field
Preferred

Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
