Job Description:

The Department of Theatre & Dance in the School of Arts and Sciences at the University of Richmond invites applications for a one-year, full-time Visiting Assistant Professor of Theatre to begin on August 19, 2025.

The Department of Theatre & Dance provides a unique liberal arts educational experience where students critically investigate the world through creative processes and engage across difference.

We seek a collaborative scholar-artist who shares our commitment to highly effective teaching at all levels of the curriculum and who is passionate about equipping students with the skills to think and act creatively in an ever-changing and increasingly challenging local and global reality. The successful candidate will teach three courses in the fall semester and three courses in the spring semester, which may include but are not limited to Performing Diversity, Classical Theatre, Modern and Contemporary Theatre History, and Basics of Acting, as well as courses in their specific area of expertise. We welcome applications from candidates who engage a range of critical perspectives, who will complement the department's strengths at the crossroads of theatre, dance, and social justice, and contribute to its ongoing efforts to foster inclusive, equitable, and student-centered learning environments.

An M.F.A. or Ph.D. in theatre is required by the time of appointment. Prior experience teaching at the college level is preferred.

Applicants should apply online at http://jobs.richmond.edu and submit a curriculum vitae and a cover letter detailing their teaching philosophy and commitment to educating a diverse student body through inclusive pedagogies. In addition, please include copies of academic transcripts. Candidates for this position may be asked, at a later date, to provide the names and contact information for three references who will be asked to submit letters of recommendation. Review of applications will commence on March 17 and continue until the position is filled. Please contact Dr. Olivier Delers, Interim Chair of the Department of Theatre & Dance, with any questions.
