Reporting to the Dean of Richmond College, the Assistant Dean ensures effective and innovative implementation of the College's student life functions. The Assistant Dean is responsible for the creation of signature programs and events, including initiatives to promote authentic and healthy masculinities. The Assistant Dean collaborates with campus partners, and serves as liaison with several divisional offices, working together to meet the University's objective of a thriving and inclusive community.
The Assistant Dean helps develop the framework and implement the programmatic model for masculinities engagement, community outreach, and educational initiatives. The Assistant Dean tracks data related to outreach and programming for annual reporting, as well as serves as a member of the Richmond College Dean's Office team while supporting University-wide initiatives.
JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
College Programming and Outreach (55%):
Manages the College's student engagement programs, which include various formal and pop-up events throughout the year.
Coordinates the development of signature programs and celebrations, including but not limited to Investiture, First Friday, Richmond College Day, Culmination, and the Richmond College Student Government Association (RCSGA) Pass the Gavel Dinner;
Develops programming focusing on core elements of masculinity, belonging, community, and values development; coordinates the establishment of student groups and other initiatives to promote resiliency and decision making.
Provides direction to the Administrative Specialist for the reservation of rooms, selection of menus, set up of spaces, logistics for speakers, development of printed materials and invitations, and procurement of promotional giveaways.
Stays current with new knowledge and emerging trends related to college students' media consumption.
Assists and makes recommendations to the dean for strategic planning in both long- and short-term goal setting, and communication and outreach initiatives.
Student Support Responsibilities (40%)
Works as part of the dean's office team to provide essential services and support to students and other members of the University community, including maintaining regular office hours and sustaining a strong presence in the College and on campus.
Provides general advising and meets with students experiencing academic, personal, and/or health problems including providing guidance on academic policies and procedures.
Works collaboratively with divisional and University partners to provide support to students with concerns in a crisis capacity.
Provides academic advising and support to assigned pre-major students, including but not limited to academic performance, major acquisition, course selection, and understanding general education and graduation requirements.
Provides support and advice to families, faculty, and staff.
Participates in on-call duty rotation and works closely with the Richmond College and Westhampton College Dean's Offices and the residential Area Coordinators to provide support to students.
Provides support and assistance when necessary in response to individual or campus crisis situations.
Keeps abreast of professional development in the areas of student development, masculinity, and theories of inclusion through conference attendance, scholarly reading and research; participation in regional and national organizations, and other opportunities.
Performs other duties as assigned (5%)
Represents the dean's office on Student Development and University committees as appointed by the dean.
CONTACTS:
The Assistant Dean will work collaboratively with and in support of all members of the Richmond College Dean's Office, interact and work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students in multiple capacities, and will work closely with administrators in the student development division and others throughout the campus community.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
This position will share in the functional supervision of one (1) Administrative Specialist.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Professional office environment. Frequent meetings or special events at various locations on campus; occasional meetings or special events at venues off campus. Availability for occasional evening and weekend activities/meetings. Very limited to no additional physical demands/effort required of position.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge and Skills:
Comprehensive knowledge in the areas of college student development theory, best practices in student affairs; training and experience in current theory and practice related to men's identity development is desired.
Proven ability to lead and demonstrated excellence in decision-making and judgment in routine and crisis situations.
Demonstrated experience working in a dynamic, team-oriented, and collaborative environment is required; must be able to work collegially in a fast-paced, high-stress environment.
Ability to thrive and manage effectively multiple tasks, deadlines, and priorities.
Excellent oral and written communications skills.
Ability to work under pressure and within prescribed timelines while contributing to a positive student-centered environment.
Ability to plan and coordinate logistics for events with attendance of between 30 and 400 participants.
Computer literacy, including word processing, spreadsheet, email/calendar software, and web-based applications; understanding of current social media platforms used by college students.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree is required; master's degree preferred.
A minimum of three (3) years of full-time experience in a college setting is required, with progressive responsibilities; experience in program development is desired.
Scheduled Hours: Full-time benefited position working 38.75 hours per week; position will require an on-call rotation schedule.
Salary Range: Salaried exempt position, grade 6 ($47,154 to $62,483)
