Job Summary

The Design Operations Senior Designer drives the operationalization of design system patterns across web and app platforms and the application of those patterns into business-as-usual needs. Leading the design, maintenance, evolution and governance of the enterprise digital design system, this role efficiently supports the daily design needs of internal designers and external design agencies with accurate, consistent, accessible and up-to-date digital design patterning. Providing expertise around visual design and white-labeling, the Design Operations Lead can mentor and guide designers and business partners to solve business needs with approved design components, patterns and options. This role also expertly designs branding guides, image specs, iconography, design documentation templates, and process visualizations to support business, design and commercialization needs.

Essential Job Functions


  • Leads creation and governance of Design System components, Branding Guides, Iconography, Playbooks, assets, process maps and visualizations necessary to support the business roadmap. Leads the visual direction of design system in collaboration with product design, accessibility design and agency peers. - (30%)

  • Demonstrates strong collaboration and leadership with Marketing counterparts and Product Design to provide assets needed to support design implementation, including iconography, photography and any research needed to apply current corporate branding standards. - (30%)

  • Drives accessibility design updates and considerations to existing and new Design System components, designs from outside agencies and reactions to reported accessibility failures. Partners effectively with Accessibility Design Lead to ensure Design System includes appropriate components and documentation. - (20%)

  • Analyzes white-labeling impact of new designs and guides on important considerations for design implementation at scale. . Demonstrates strong visual design skills, time management and organizational skills, able to analyze and negotiate priorities to best support design deadlines. - (20%)


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in UX Design, human-computer interaction, or related field of study or equivalent, relevant work experience

  • 5+ years of progressive experience in digital design, visual design and design systems.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in Design System leadership, maintenance, governance and evolution.

  • Skilled at white-labeling design, branding and design patterns/components definition.

  • Design tool expertise (i.e. Figma, Invision, Adobe Creative Suite).

  • Experience in design related to financial services, payments, B2B or B2C e-commerce.

Work Environment

  • Normal office environment. (Remote or Hybrid), 3 to 4 days per month are required in office if within 60 miles of a posted Bread Financial location.

Salary Range (unless otherwise noted below):
$87,900.00 - $159,200.00

Full Salary Range for position:
California: $101,000.00 - $198,900.00

Colorado: $87,900.00 - $167,100.00

New York: $96,600.00 - $198,900.00

Washington: $92,200.00 - $183,000.00

Maryland: $92,200.00 - $175,100.00

Washington DC: $101,000.00 - $183,000.00

Illinois: $87,900.00 - $175,100.00

New Jersey: $101,000.00 - $183,000.00

Vermont: $87,900.00 - $159,200.00

The actual base pay within this range may be dependent upon many factors, which may include, but are not limited to, work location, education, experience, and skills.

Bread Financial offers medical, prescription drug, dental, vision, and other voluntary benefits (including basic and optional life insurance, supplemental medical plans, and short and long-term disability) to eligible associates (regular full-time associates scheduled to work 30 hours per week or more) and their spouses/domestic partners, and child(ren) under the age of 26. New associate elected coverage begins on date of hire (with the exception of disability coverage which has a 6-month waiting period). Six weeks of 100% paid parental leave for eligible parents is available after a 180-day waiting period. Hired associates can immediately enroll in Bread Financial's 401(k) plan.

All associates receive 11 paid holidays. Associates have discretion in managing their time away from work through the Flexible Time Off (FTO) program and may need to notify and receive approval from their manager prior to taking the time off. Associates (except those located in Illinois) receive 80 hours of Paid Sick and Safe Time ("PSST") upon hire and at the beginning of each subsequent calendar year. Illinois associates receive 40 hours of Illinois PSST upon hire and at the beginning of each subsequent calendar year and 40 hours of Illinois Paid Leave upon hire and at the beginning of each subsequent calendar year. Illinois Paid Leave must be used before associates in Illinois will be approved to take FTO.

Hired associates will be able to elect the purchase company stock during offering periods in June and December. You will be eligible for an annual incentive bonus based on individual and company performance.
