Eskenazi Health serves as the public hospital division of the Health & Hospital Corporation of Marion County. Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 333-bed hospital and outpatient facilities both on and off of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus including at a network of Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis.

Job Role Summary
Under the general direction of the Chief Nursing Officer, the Doula, in collaboration with Eskenazi Health and Eskenazi Health Center associates will be responsible for completing a prenatal interview, contacting the family between the interview and onset of labor, working with the family at the hospital during the labor, birth, and the immediate postpartum recovery process, and completing a postpartum visit or phone call.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
• Providing parents with emotional, physical, and educational support.
• Meeting with the expectant parent(s) a minimum of 4 times during the perinatal period.
• Working as part of a multidisciplinary team (providers and support staff) in the outpatient and inpatient settings.
• Providing support to the expectant parent(s) during the prenatal, labor and birth, and postpartum periods.
Job Requirements
• Completion of a DONA international Doula training course, or other certified Doula training program.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
• Ability to effectively communicate with patients.
• Incorporate cultural awareness with all birthing persons.
• Utilization of a birth plan.
• A non-judgmental, calming, and nurturing presence.
• Fluency with the English language.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, including written documentation of care.
