Job Description:
JOB SUMMARY The New York Center for Research, Economic Advancement, Technology, Engineering, and Science (NYCREATES) is a world-leading R&D, innovation hub and commercialization facilitator in advanced semiconductors. Through investments from the Microelectronics Commons, the Northeast Regional Defense Technology Hub (NORDTECH), a consortium led by NY CREATES with university and industry partners, will accelerate prototyping and technology maturation to meet the intensifying imperatives of national security and economic competitiveness surrounding the domestic semiconductor reshoring effort.
Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Carrying out communications functions for NY CREATES and in support of the communications efforts for NORDTECH.
The Communications Specialist will report to NY CREATES' Director of Communications and will also work closely with the Director of Marketing and Government Affairs and members of NY CREATES Communications and Marketing departments, and with NORDTECH leaders and the initiative's project management office to create multifaceted, high-quality, and on-time communications deliverables.
The ideal candidate will be able to deploy a wide variety of skills, with the ability to take complex subjects and distill them into creative, concise, and impactful communications vehicles.
The ability to design on-brand graphics and imagery to support communications initiatives and the ability to incorporate them into PowerPoint presentation drafts provided by others, as well as those wholly created, is an important part of this position, with such imagery also used for social media posts, as well as updated and newly designed "one-pagers," and other collateral.
They must also be able to deploy accurate and compelling copywriting for membership communications, media advisories, feature articles, "one-page" promotional documents, as well as content for the NY CREATES and NORDTECH websites.
The successful candidate must understand the public and targeted audiences and plan, obtain, and deploy all relevant synthesized information to share the organizations' respective world-class capabilities and expertise on a variety of print and digital platforms.
The Communications Specialist will also work with the Communications team to update NY CREATES' news and communications-related webpages and other documents and online collateral, ensuring accurate, detailed, and well edited information is shared with our international audience.
This position will require some hours outside the typical workday when needed; travel may be required from time to time.

Requirements:
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
A minimum of 3 years of experience in public relations, journalism, marketing, television production, online media, or a related field.
A bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, journalism, English, or related field from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Dept. of Education or other internationally recognized accrediting institution; bachelor's degrees in physics, chemistry, engineering, or materials science will also be considered.
Ability to use various design platforms to create imagery that connotes the world-class nature of the high-tech and microelectronics-focused work taking place at NY CREATES and via NORDTECH.
Demonstrated ability to write creative, clear, and concise text for use across multiple media and marketing platforms, including print, online, and digital, including presentations, and video.
Demonstrated ability to be effective working within both large, multi-faceted organizations and fast-paced entrepreneurial environments, often under tight deadlines, balancing multiple projects.
Demonstrated interest in and basic knowledge of the semiconductor industry is critical, with outstanding interpersonal skills and exceptional oral and written communication proficiency; the ability to prudently handle confidential and sensitive information; and experience with strategic planning and project management are required skill sets.
The successful candidate should have experience with crafting engaging, data-driven social media strategies and combining video, imagery, and strong writing skills to deploy posts that enable NY CREATES and NORDTECH to further connect with and grow our audiences.
When needed, the candidate should be comfortable taking photos at events and other engagements to support these communications efforts. The skills, or ability to learn how to coordinate the logistics of the attendance of team members at certain events and conferences, is a plus to ensure successful optimization of NORDTECH-focused promotional opportunities.
The successful candidate should be self-motivated, organized, and eager to learn new skills to be able to meet the wide-ranging demands of this exciting opportunity. They should enjoy working as part of several teams on different projects at the same time.
The successful candidate may have experience working with members of the media, and, with the Communications team, can assist with the coordination and preparation for on-site, off-site, and virtual media and leader/staff interviews.
