Job Description:

The DHHS Division of Children and Family Services is seeking an individual with a passion for "helping people live better lives" to join their team as a Tribal Site Coordinator.


As part of the Together for Indigenous Families Grant, this position will be responsible for enhancing DHHS's relationship with the Ponca Tribe of Nebraska. This position will help develop a framework for tribal state partnership in child welfare that will promote safety, permanency, and well-being and recognizes that tribal citizens are also Nebraska citizens. This position will help identify best practices to ensure that tribal citizens are safe, healthy, and culturally connected.

The Tribal Site Coordinator will support the Together for Indigenous Families grant objectives and will:



  • Compile and analyze data and information from grant partners, site visits, and research to identify areas of improvement

  • Research and analyze policies and best practices related to Indian Child Welfare, ensuring compliance with state and federal laws and regulations

  • Prepare comprehensive reports and findings from site visits, research, and policy analysis

  • Develop plans and processes to improve ICWA implementation and compliance

  • Present information, reports, and recommendations to the Project Team and stakeholders

  • Evaluate and analyze the current relationship and compliance with ICWA by the state of Nebraska and Nebraska courts

  • Work alongside tribal children and family services teams to achieve project goals

  • Participate in Project Team and Stakeholder meetings, providing expert guidance on ICWA compliance and best practices

  • Develop and maintain relationships with other Nebraska tribes, grant partners, and stakeholders to foster collaboration and information sharing

  • Coordinate and participate in site visits to gather firsthand information and assess ICWA implementation

  • Assist the Project Coordinator in facilitating community engagement and participation between the Project Team and stakeholders




Requirements / Qualifications




Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor's degree, or equivalent coursework/training, in public administration, social/behavioral sciences, healthcare, human services or other program related field.Professional experience working in a human/social service or health care agency with responsibility for planning or evaluation services, programs or operational policies and practices may substitute in lieu of the educational requirement.



Preferred Qualifications: Minimum of two years working with federally recognized tribes, Indian Child Welfare Act, policy and procedure development or child and family services. Lived experience with the child welfare system. Grant reporting experience.



Other:Driver's license is required
