Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama and three years of experience in an operational management function of an arena, convention center or stadium. Related experience may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

The University of South Alabama’s Mitchell Center is seeking to hire a Manager, Arena Operations. Interested candidates should apply to be considered.
Essential Functions These are the job duties required of the position.
Essential Functions
Directs and coordinates logistical activities of the department to obtain optimum efficiency and economy or operations while maximizing income by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors/employees.
Responsible for all facility operations and services including but not limited to: arena and event setup, equipment inventory and maintenance, in house custodial services, exterior custodial services support, and facility representative for sub-contractor work performance.
Oversees all aspects of the operations department including event conversions, building and grounds maintenance, custodial services, building equipment and safety procedures.
Initiates and provides direction in event planning, administering budgets, cost control measures and superior guest services.
Supervises expenditures of capital and operating funds and maintains controls to ensure budget appropriations are not exceeded.
Serves as liaison between building and clients regarding technical and operational issues such as staffing, power distribution, rigging and equipment use.
Hires, schedules, supervises and trains conversion crews, maintenance personnel, contract labor sources, event specific crews and custodial service personnel.
Performs operations and custodial service staff annual evaluations.
Ensures, directs and supervises proper inventory controls of equipment and supplies.
Coordinates with the Arena Director, Ticket Manager and Event Services Manager to determine seating layout to meet objectives of promoters and clients and ensures all aspects of the facility are prepared, orchestrated and implemented in a timely manner.
Oversees the modification of equipment and/or seating to accommodate the specific needs of each event.
Inspects, maintains and schedules repair to the Mitchell Center, Moulton Tower area and Chi Omega Amphitheater and related equipment in a timely and efficient manner.
Verifies and approves time sheets/cards for operations department personnel.
Obtains bids, proposals and negotiates contracts for repair and maintenance of building projects for management approval.
Maintains an on-going line of communication with management personnel, subordinate personnel and warranted exterior entities concerning specific duties.
Regular and prompt attendance.
Ability to work schedule as defined and additional hours as required.
Related duties as required.
