Provides a thorough assessment and diagnosis of speech, voice, fluency, and language impairments of referred students . Participates as a member or leads the Evaluation Team on referred students and helps to determine eligibility under IDEA & 504 (when requested). Makes recommendations to the IEP Team. And other duties as needed.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides a thorough assessment and diagnosis of speech, voice, fluency, and language impairments of referred students and preschoolers.
Participates on and chairs (when needed) the Child Study Team on students referred for speech concerns and helps determine eligibility under IDEA.
Screens new students to the districts as well as at Child Finds and at parents' request.
Provides information with suggested activities to parents and/or school personnel for intervention assistance.
Assists in referring individuals for speech evaluations at the local school or to agencies or professionals in the community as appropriate.
Develops appropriate IEPs (Individualized Education Programs) to meet individual needs and improve speech and/or language skills.
Provides a therapeutic program inclusive of lesson plans and activities to meet the goals and objectives of the IEP in individual or small group therapy.
Keeps thorough on-going records for the students receiving speech services and reports quarterly progress to the parents.
Provides inservice education and serves as a consultant to teachers and school staff members on topics concerning speech and language development and programs concerning speech improvement.
Keeps current of new developments in the field.
Attends staff, professional, and interagency meetings as assigned.
May be assigned supervision duties of speech technicians or aides.
