Position Summary
The Multilingual Learner Education Department of Lawrence Public Schools seeks a Senior Director of Multilingual Learner Education to establish and facilitate a bold vision for districtwide Multilingual Learner Education (MLE) serving approximately 5,500 multilingual learners.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Work collaboratively with stakeholders to establish a vision for Multilingual Learner Education, including setting clear expectations and overseeing progress monitoring.
Coordinate and support all programs related to the instruction of Multilingual Learners in the district (SEI and Dual Language).
Develop and lead high-quality professional development for district administrators, coaches, and ESL/SEI teachers.
Support and consult with school-based personnel regarding English Learner education, including administrative learning walks, curriculum selection, and service delivery models.
Supervise the implementation of high-quality curriculum in alignment with WIDA and Massachusetts literacy standards.
Supervise the implementation of research-based best practices and instructional strategies for English Learner Education.
Support the planning and administration of required assessments for English Learners (WIDA Screener, ACCESS).
Analyze assessment data and collaborate with school administrators and staff to develop recommendations for instructional improvement.
Support the implementation of Title III and immigrant grants, ensuring alignment with centralized initiatives and school-level needs.
Seek out and develop partnerships with higher education institutions to increase educator effectiveness and capacity.
Monitor educator licensure and certification to ensure compliance with English Learner education policy.
Serve as a liaison between DESE and Lawrence Public Schools regarding English Learner education policies.
Collaborate with district staff to ensure equitable opportunities for English Learners.
Support the expansion of dual language programs in the district.
Supervise family and community outreach activities and programs.
Maintain appropriate documentation and records as related to English Learner Education programs.
Manage the Multilingual Learner Education Department budget and participate in budget preparation.
Supervise the implementation of state and federal compliance regulations for English Learners.
Supervise district-level MLL department members.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent.
Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience as an ESL teacher.
Knowledge & Expertise
Familiarity with WIDA ELD Standards and Massachusetts Literacy Frameworks.
Understanding of curriculum and pedagogy for English Learners.
Working knowledge of federal and state policies related to English Learners.
Ability to analyze data to inform English Learner education decisions.
Bilingual or advanced proficiency in Spanish, Portuguese, or Haitian Creole.
Preferred Qualifications
Bilingual Education endorsement or TBE license.
Minimum of 2 years of experience in school administration at the central office or building level.
Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
Experience in Dual Language or other bilingual education settings.
Proven ability to collaborate with federal, state, and local agencies on English Learner initiatives.
Experience creating, facilitating, and contracting high-quality professional development activities for school staff.
Experience in urban school settings.
Work Year/Position Details
Full-time, exempt salaried position, with some evening work required.
Benefits in accordance with Lawrence Public Schools guidelines.
Pay Range
• $135,000-$145,000
