A Day in the Life
The Neuroscience Group develops life-restoring therapies and healthcare solutions that span the care continuum; integrating technologies and applying clinical and economic evidence to increase patient access, improve efficiency of procedures and deliver successful patient outcomes.
The Cranial Laser Ablation group is focused on developing products to improve patient outcomes and setting new standards of care using advances in MRI, computer-assisted surgery and laser ablation technology.

As a Test Engineer II within the Cranial Laser Ablation Research and Development organization you will have responsibility and authority to create and perform verification & validation activities for software and/or hardware systems to ensure Medtronic's cutting-edge medical products meet our user's needs and our quality and reliability standards. This position requires application of technical expertise to solve complex technical problems with ingenuity and creativity. Work is performed only under general direction.

A Day in the Life

The Test Engineer II is responsible for leading and contributing to the development of test approaches for cutting edge products used in the medical field. Specific tasks include:


  • Participates in verification and validation of new or changed products including generating plans, protocols, and reports for testing performed.

  • Utilizes statistical methods and six sigma techniques to conduct experiments, analyze data, and perform root cause analysis under the supervision of more senior test engineers.

  • Develops test methods and approaches including test equipment design and build.

  • Coordinates and oversees the testing of equipment and product at outside test facilities.

  • Create project specific test strategies and approaches.

  • Participate in defect tracking and analysis.

  • Maintains an organized and efficient test laboratory environment.

  • Supports data collection and testing in animal tissue models and preclinical trials.

  • Applies technical standards, principles, theories, concepts, and techniques to the development of test methods.

  • Provides solutions to a variety of technical problems of varying scope and complexity.

  • Participate in all phases of product development as needed such as reviewing requirements, design, usability, risk management, and defects.

  • Identifies and implements process improvements.

  • Contributes to the completion of work group objectives through building relationships and consensus to reach agreements on assignments.

  • Effectively communicates findings, problems, and solutions to project teams and stakeholders.

  • Collaborates and maintains excellent working relationships with team members and stakeholders.

  • Provides technical leadership and mentoring to other test engineers.

  • Performs all activities in compliance with the Quality System.

  • Performs duties in compliance with environmental, health and safety related site rules, policies or governmental regulations.

  • All activities must be performed in compliance with the Quality System.

  • All other duties as assigned.


Must Have: Minimum Requirements


  • Bachelors' degree in Engineering or technically related

  • 2+ years of relevant experience or an advanced degree.

Nice to Have
SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED


  • Knowledge of applicable AAMI, ISO, FDA, ASME, IEC, and EN standards

  • Working knowledge of hardware design, development, root cause analysis and test practices.

  • Oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work in a team environment.

  • Experience with medical device testing and understanding of FDA Quality System Regulations (QSR)

  • Able to handle multiple tasks/projects and manage priorities.

  • Self-motivated with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with business and technical audiences.

  • Experience with statistical methods using MINITAB, R, or equivalent software.

  • Experience with reliability test methods.

  • Experience with shock/vibration testing, environmental testing,

  • Operating System testing.

  • Experience developing and/or testing GUI applications and Medical Devices

  • Project management skills including planning, estimation, and requirements management.

  • Self-motivated with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.

  • Understanding of FDA Quality System Regulations (QSR).

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$80,800.00 - $121,200.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance , Health Savings Account , Healthcare Flexible Spending Account , Life insurance, Long-term disability leave , Dependent daycare spending account , Tuition assistance/reimbursement , and Simple Steps (global well-being program).
