We are seeking a full-time Mechanical Engineering Technician in our Olathe, KS location. In this role, you will be responsible for providing technical troubleshooting, testing, and documentation support to the Mechanical Engineering department.
Essential Functions
Prepare units and conduct environmental and performance tests such as vibration, temperature, waterproof, and shock
Write test reports to document results of environmental and other tests
Build prototypes and test fixtures for mechanical assemblies and troubleshoot mechanical systems
Maintain, stock, and clean equipment and tools for the department and lab as assigned, and perform or coordinate basic troubleshooting and repair activities as needed
Perform general documentation tasks, various clerical functions and able to follow proper test setups, methods, and equipment usage
Perform job functions with a balanced focus on quality/quantity while demonstrating a sense of urgency, commitment, and focus on the right priorities in developing timely solutions
Apply working knowledge of Garmin processes and procedures and identify/resolve problems of moderate scope using proper engineering tools and techniques
Determine general approach and solutions to technical problems and provide drafting support
Basic Qualifications
Associate's Degree in Electronics, Mechanical Engineering Technology or related field OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
Mechanical assembly, maintenance, or repair experience
Proficiency working with MS Office Suite, specifically Word & Excel
Ability to work with CAD tools such as SolidWorks
Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Must be positive, professional, team oriented and a driven problem solver with proven success in solving difficult problems with excellent time management/follow-up skills
Must possess the ability to bend, twist and lift up to 75 pounds while using safe lifting techniques, and pushing/pulling test equipment racks of up to 200 pounds, standing for an extended period of time, climbing and utilizing ladders to connect cables and walking long distances throughout the facility
Desired Qualifications
Experience with mechanical measurements and inspection tools
Electronics Technician skills, including reading wiring diagrams, troubleshooting wiring connections, soldering, and use of basic electronic measurement equipment
