Description:
The Department of African American Studies at the University of Houston invites applications for a non-tenure track Visiting Scholar position in Black Church Studies, beginning Fall 2025. We seek a scholar who will complement our current course offerings in Black leadership and theology. Therefore, the successful applicant must have teaching and academic experience in both African American Studies and Religion. The scholar must also have specific research interests in the Black Church experience and a related leadership record, preferably in the Houston area.
Responsibilities:
Teach one undergraduate course a semester
Mentor students interested in church leadership and theology
Make a public research presentation
Maintain research activities
Qualifications:
DMin. or Ph.D. in Church Leadership by time of appointment
Record of teaching in African American Studies
Evidence of excellence in teaching
Evidence of related research profile
