Job Description:

The Business Financial Officer has overall financial responsibility for The Cigna Group's Technology & Enterprise Operations (T&EO) function, acting as a co-pilot with the T&EO Leadership Team, P&L owners and Segment BFOs, to achieve the following four overarching objectives:

1. Establish clear strategy for technology financial data enhancements that drive step-function improvements in (1) transparency to specific drivers and economic benefits of T&EO spend, (2) understanding of how those drivers can be influenced to achieve strategic objectives, and (3) effectiveness and efficiency of T&EO cost allocations to products and services.

2. Develop actionable multi year roadmap to execute the strategy described in #1, and lead the TE&O and Finance organizations to achieve roadmap milestones each period beginning with 2025.

3. For the ~$6B of annual T&EO spend, design and implement near-term advancements in sophistication of financial analysis, resulting in more robust in-year decision-making and tradeoff analyses with key stakeholders; and

4. Accurate forward projections of financial performance of the T&EO function

The ideal candidate will possess experience as a Technology CFO at a large corporation successfully leading a technology financial data transformation strategy. This role requires strong analytical, prioritization and influencing skills, an enterprise mindset, and the ability to work collaboratively across businesses and functions to improve depth and quality of technology financial performance insights that ultimately enhance stakeholder value creation.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Management & Strategic Focus:


  • Set strategic priorities and financial goals in partnership with TE&O leaders, P&L leaders and BFOs.

  • Oversee the financial operations of The Cigna Group's TE&O organization, ensuring linkage of spend outlook with enterprise growth and profitability objectives

  • Structure, staff and lead a team of > 40 professionals to support an enterprise function that currently operates with disparate processes and reporting tools, multiple ledgers, and financial data that is often not traceable at a granular level to specific products and services.

  • Provide thought leadership on financial performance, optimization of spend, and risk management.

  • Prioritize and execute specific actions that improve effectiveness and efficiency of financial management processes, including through automation, AI and more consistency in applicable of enterprise financial tools such as Hyperion Planning.

  • Develop and execute multi-year roadmap for the financial and analytics functions to achieve goals

Reporting and Analytics:


  • Prepare and present detailed financial reports and analyses to senior management.

  • Utilize advanced analytics to provide insights and recommendations for financial decision-making.

  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting of financial data.

Compliance and Risk Management:


  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations and company policies.

  • Identify and mitigate financial risks associated with current year and multi-year operating plan

  • Maintain internal controls.

Collaboration and Communication:


  • Partner with TE&O leaders, P&L leaders and BFOs.

  • Communicate financial concepts and results to non-financial stakeholders.

  • Partner with business teams to develop and execute business-specific strategic plans with alignment to overarching segment and enterprise plans.

  • Maximize key relationships to create synergies and opportunities.

BFO qualifications


  • Minimum 15 years of relevant financial experience with demonstrated ability to manage financial strategies, processes, and strong outcomes across a broad portfolio.

  • Experience as a Technology CFO at a large corporation successfully leading a technology financial data transformation strategy.

  • Demonstrated thought leadership on challenging problems with examples of implementing innovative solutions, actions taken, and driving outstanding results.

  • Strong influencer and collaborator, working through others, and building relationships within the organization.

  • Strong team management skills, such as but not limited to, creating an inspiring vision, coaching / developing others, engaging staff, and communicating effectively.

  • Strong verbal/written communication and collaborative approach to work in highly matrixed and dynamic organization.

  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts and insights to senior business leaders and partners in an actionable manner.
