We are seeking an Aerosol Systems Engineering Technician to provide mechanical, electrical, and chemical engineering support to the Department of Defense in Frederick, MD. ***Position contingent upon contract award.***

KEY TASKS
(1) Perform aerosol exposures and facilitate the design and maintenance of aerosol exposure equipment. Test and assist with the design of new equipment, support the execution of scientific studies, analyze data, and maintain laboratory space and equipment
(2) Generate, characterize, and sample biological aerosols to support pathogenesis and medical countermeasure studies against biothreat agents. Work may include animal plethysmography, aerosol supervision and assistance. All tasks conducted under the guidance of a study PI and in compliance with protocol and GLP standards. Studies may be conducted in BSL-2, BSL-3, or BSL-4 laboratory environments
(3) Assemble, maintain, and troubleshoot aerosol systems. Aerosol systems shall be assembled, tested, and documented in a non-containment shop area. Documentation for each assembled system shall be reviewed prior to moving and testing in a containment Class III biosafety cabinet
(4) Perform and supervise biological decontamination procedures for Class III biosafety cabinets post-aerosol
(5) Coordinate and collaborate with leadership and staff to assist in the development and continuation of the technical training program; maintain training records in accordance with applicable regulations and SOPs
(6) Assist with SOP writing, revision and review to meet GLP requirements
(7) Cross-train and assist with laboratory technician support as needed, which may include execution of bacterial and viral assays, sample processing, aliquoting and inactivation, providing animal clinical pathology support, and assisting with telemetry operations
(8) Perform weekly/monthly checks of change rooms, showers, and assigned containment areas, which may include cleaning, restocking, proper disposal of expired materials, and ensuring equipment and safety requirements are completed and documented according to applicable regulations and SOPs
(9) Assist with entering research data into appropriate formats and developing charts and graphs as required; assist in the preparation of manuscripts or posters relating to research efforts.
KEY REQUIREMENTS
(1) Bachelor's degree in Bioengineering, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics, Microbiology, Chemistry, or closely related technical discipline
(2) Minimum of 5 years of relevant aerosol experience including working knowledge and hands-on experience with aerosol generating platforms and ancillary equipment such as aerodynamic particle sizers, aerosol nebulizers, aerosol collection devices, and various plenums
(3) Willing and able to work in BSL-2, BSL-3, and BSL-4 biocontainment labs, which requires eligibility and enrollment in the Biological Personnel Reliability Program (BPRP) and the Controlled Substance Personnel Reliability Program (CS-PRP)
(4) US citizenship as per contract requirements to pass background check and obtain required security (secret) clearance
