1. Leads other custodians in performing the cleaning functions. Acts as crew leader for full-time and Staff custodial employees.
2. Dust mops, sweeps, vacuums, mops, strips, and waxes all floors as required.
3. Cleans glass doors, dust mops walls and light fixtures, cleans water fountains, sweeps stairs, empties all waste containers and ash trays, dusts desks in offices, and services coffee machines in conference rooms and lounges.
4. Cleans chalk boards and chairs in classrooms, maintains restrooms in excellent condition at all times, and maintains and cleans custodial supplies and equipment.
5. Assists in relocating furniture, books, etc.
6. Initiates work orders for minor building maintenance.
7. Performs minor repairs to plumbing problems (i.e. commodes, faucets leak, stoppages, etc.)
8. Ensures that areas of responsibility are secured at the completion of custodial rounds.
9. Maintains inventory of all supplies and equipment and re-orders through supervising Custodial Department.
10. Performs other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED: Must possess valid Florida Driver's License. Employee will be required to operate a college vehicle, including but not limited to on and between campuses and in the local community, in order to perform the essential job functions.
High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
One year experience with similar duties.
Ability to read and follow safety and work directions and to communicate effectively.
Knowledge of cleaning fluids and chemicals.
Knowledge and ability to use cleaning tools and equipment such as scrubbing and waxing machines.
Pulling, pushing, and reaching.
Walking, standing, kneeling, bending, balancing, stooping, and climbing.
Works inside and outside with chemicals, solvents, oils, and moving objects.
This job primarily operates throughout the College's worksites and grounds. The employee may be exposed to elements including but not limited to wet/humid weather, extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, and unpleasant odors. The role may also involve hazards or physical risks, which require comprehending and following basic safety precautions and may require Personal Protection Equipment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and occasionally loud.
Typical physical competencies include but are not limited to remaining stationary, moving, ascending/descending, positioning self, reaching, lifting/moving objects weighing between 5-100 pounds. This job also entails communicating, discerning and exchanging information, detecting and perceiving objects up close, at a distance, and the ability to adjust focus. Cognitive abilities include but are not limited to discretion, judgment, reasoning, memory, learning, maintaining confidentiality, comprehension, problem solving, and decision-making.
