Job Description Summary

Reporting to the associate provost for student success, the student success data analyst provides data analysis to support data-informed decision making within the Office of Student Success and the division of Academic Affairs. The analyst will perform descriptive analyses to identify inequalities in the student experience and institutional performance gaps; they will perform diagnostic analyses to lead the team to deeper understanding of the student experience; they will also perform predictive and prescriptive analyses to help the student success team design and implement interventions to increase student success. The ideal candidate possesses the technical and statistical skills to mine, analyze, and visualize complex data sets and the communication skills to translate numbers into narratives that inspire campus partners and drive data-informed action across the university. This position primarily requires on-site presence, with the possibility of working remotely.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collect, analyze, and communicate student success data consistently and in real time, including quarterly, biannual, and annual reporting.
  • Compare real time data to historical data to identify trends and/or changes in student success indicators.
  • Partner with colleagues across campus, including in Enrollment Management, Student Affairs, Academic Affairs, and Advancement to compare student success indicators to pre-university inputs and post-university outputs.
  • Partner with colleagues in Information Technologies in support of the university’s enterprise-wide data analytics and data governance projects.
  • Analyze students’ academic performance in comparison to non-academic data points to paint a holistic picture of the overall student experience.
  • Build and maintain student success data dashboards and design and facilitate training to campus partners on how to use those dashboards.
  • Partner with IT to serve as a leader within Academic Affairs for modernizing data management, data governance, and data literacy of student success key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Run reports and analyses of data within Navigate 360 for the Office of Student Success and support campus partners who use the platform in running their own reports and analyses.
  • Provide ongoing qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis of various student success programs, including the Falcon Discovery Seminar, the Honors program, Academic Integrity, and FirstGen Presidential Fellows.
  • Communicate data analysis to various university audiences through data visualization, oral presentations, dashboards, and written reports.
  • Collaborate with the Academic Technologies Center on faculty and student use of the learning management system to improve the learning experience within that environment and make it more equitable.
  • Partner with the associate provost for student success to tell stories with data that measure the impact community members’ engagement with students has on student success indicators and their educational experience, with a particular emphasis on faculty engagement.
  • Serve as a thought-leader and role model within the Office of Student Success relative to leveraging generative artificial intelligence to enhance business processes and deepen analytic insights.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with minimum three years’ work experience.
  • At least two years of hands-on experience performing data mining, data hygiene, and data analysis using large or complex datasets.
  • At least two years of experience creating data visualizations (e.g., dashboards, reports, charts) using Power BI.
  • At least two years of experience delivering data-driven presentations and written reports to internal or external stakeholders.
  • Experience with at least two enterprise-level higher education technology platforms, such as Workday Student, Banner, PeopleSoft, Slate, Navigate 360, degree audit tools, or LMS (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard).
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate technical data concepts to non-technical or cross-functional audiences.
  • At least 2 years of experience managing multiple projects simultaneously and meeting established deadlines.
  • At least one year of experience applying data to identify and address equity gaps or to support inclusion initiatives across diverse demographic populations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in Higher Education.
  • Experience using D2L Brightspace or other learning management systems.
  • Ability to create real time business specific dashboards that provide actionable information.
  • Experience using data to drive decisions that close equity gaps and increase inclusion amongst different demographic populations.

Work Environment:

  • On-site role with potential for remote work: This position primarily requires on-site presence, with the possibility of working remotely.
  • Typical office setting with extensive sitting and computer work. Regular in-person meetings and presentations with the option of flexible work-from-home capability when needed or appropriate.
  • Ability to travel around campus for meetings and other work-related events.
