The University of Richmond's Department of Languages, Literatures, & Cultures invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor position in Italian Studies to begin on August 19, 2025. We seek a teacher-scholar with research and teaching interests in the 20th and/or 21st centuries. The department welcomes expertise in at least two of the following areas: Italian Literature, Cinema, and Culture; Mediterranean and Transcultural Studies; Ethnic and/or Minority studies; Italian American Culture and Literature; Translation Studies; Environmental Humanities and Ecocriticism; Gender and Sexuality Studies. The successful candidate will teach 3 course units in the Fall and 3 course units in the Spring, which may include but are not limited to Intensive Italian (beginning and intermediate), Italian in the Media (ITAL 312), and Italian Literature in Context (ITAL 321). Native or near-native fluency in Italian and English and a strong commitment to teaching at all levels of the undergraduate curriculum are required. Experience in language teaching and instructional technologies is preferred. The regular teaching load will be six units per academic year.
Italian Studies is a thriving program in the Department of Languages, Literatures, & Cultures, with an average of 70 students taking beginning, intermediate, and upper-level courses each semester. The program offers both a major and a minor.
