The Financial Business Consultant position provides analysis, direction, consultation, leadership, planning, performance measurement and specialized business and strategic financial advisory services to various levels of assigned RBUs (Meat, Produce, Deli, Bakery, and Meals) and cross-functional strategic initiative teams to enable and support information-based decision making. Within the department, the Business Consultant serves as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) with broad knowledge in the field of financial analysis and is responsible for project managing the development and deployment of analytical technology solutions. Ideal candidates are persuasive with strong written and verbal communication skills.
In Publix's corporate offices, we value in-person interactions, similar to those our store associates have with customers. Many of Publix's corporate offices offer work from home up to two days a week. Each business area implements their policy differently and should be discussed during interviews.
What you’ll do
provide project support and planning, including comprehensive analytical consulting for an assigned business function, in addition to providing financial-based insights and recommendations
administer strategic consulting to senior decision makers while serving as a financial point of contact, consulting and providing financial-based insights and recommendations for assigned business functions, managing and ensuring consistent support in both strategic and regularly recurring decision-making processes
provide thought leadership by proactively advocating for viewpoints associated with their domain of expertise, while supporting and reinforcing recommendations and standards brought forth from across the Finance function
manage and complete ad hoc analysis & reporting requests to ensure assigned Retail Business Unit (RBU) is properly informed when making decisions
develop analytical solutions by using technology to streamline and reinvent existing reports, tools and processes, create new reports, tools and models that can be highly trusted by decision makers to deliver insights and to influence final decision making, and enhance the production, delivery and ease of use of analytical products to empower RBUs to obtain more self-service insights
participate in continuous learning, maintenance, and growth of professional skills in finance/accounting, analytical methods, and technology
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Analytics, Information Technology, Statistics or another analytical discipline or equivalent
at least four years of relevant finance, accounting and/or analytical experience in an office environment
knowledge of Accounting and/or Finance (solid knowledge of accounting principles and exceptional math skills)
knowledge of statistics and quantitative methods
knowledge of analytical techniques, including how to quickly identify and correct logical flaws and improve the overall accuracy of the analysis
knowledge of Extract, Transform and Load (ETL) and visual communication tools such as MicroStrategy Developer, Alteryx, Power Query, or similar ETL tool and Power BI, Tableau or similar data visualization tool, respectively
ability to set priorities and coordinate work activities effectively without close supervision or guidance
ability to perform arithmetic computations and operations to solve practical math problems
ability to inspect, cleanse, transform, and model data from various sources to discover trends, inform conclusions, and support decision making
ability to interpret, analyze, and explain financial information
ability to problem solve and understand the "big picture" and the interrelationships among various parts of the organization (e.g., department or company), including the impact of changes in one area or another area
ability to develop and maintain professional, trusting, positive, and productive working relationships
ability to create an environment in which a positive and professional service orientation is evident to customers
intermediate Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint skills
basic Microsoft Access skills
Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Analytics, Information Technology, Statistics or MBA with concentration in Analytics, Accounting or Finance or equivalent with
six or more years of relevant finance, accounting and/or analytical experience in an office environment
Certified Public Accountant, Certified Management Accountant, MS Certified Power BI Data Analyst, certified Alteryx Designer, or other certifications specific to the position
knowledge of other Business Units, including their basic roles and responsibilities
knowledge of assigned business functions, including their strategic long-term business needs and operational decision processes
knowledge of financial & strategic planning and consulting techniques
knowledge of the Publix retail store environment and operations
advanced Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access skills
advanced knowledge of Publix systems/data sources (SAP, EDW, Host, PIMs, Marwood, FINDSS, DB2, Store Accounting, Oasis, EDW, Supplemental Data, Nielsen, etc.) and the interrelationships of those systems
knowledge of APT Test & Learn, Basket Insights and Benchmarker tools
knowledge of Nielsen IQ
