Availability: Monday-Friday, early afternoons and evenings (roughly 11:00am-7:00pm) with occasional weekend availability

What you will do at the Y:

This position is a year-round position that works alongside our Teen (Middle and High School Age) Programming during the 2024-2025 school year and assists with camp and program development during the summer. This position is currently grant funded for one year with potential for future funding and sustainability.

As the STEM Coordinator working with our Teen team and STEM team you will lead and develop our teen-based STEM enrichments and programming. This position will serve on an engaging and dynamic team, playing a key role in ensuring planning and implementation of developmentally appropriate activities and curriculum are provided to the participants. You will oversee the planning and implementation of equitable and engaging STEM learning opportunities for teens, working with YMCA Teen staff to best fit the needs of the community. You will be an important part of helping maintain professional relationships with families, facility/school personnel, and the community.

This is an in-person, Full-Time role. Shifts are a combination of administrative work and afternoon programming. The position is based out of one centralized location, but you will need reliable transportation to sites to facilitate STEM activities. Hours and shifts are determined by school and Teen Programming schedules, STEM Coordinators will be expected to work 35-40 hours in a combination of admin and in ratio hours.

Position Summary:
Implement STEM curriculum at assigned locations as directed introducing youth from all backgrounds to science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) experiences; meeting the needs of our diverse community. Ensure a safe, positive and inclusive atmosphere that promotes participant safety and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies, practices and procedures.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

Research and design YMCA specific STEM Curriculum
Travels to assigned locations to implement STEM curriculum on-site at designated YMCA of Snohomish County locations.
Focus on facilitation practices that encourage gender equitable practices and promote inclusivity in STEM
Collect and compile data related to program effectiveness
Ensure and provide upkeep of assigned program facilities and equipment and ensure all safety standards are met
Maintain compliance with proper DCYF and YMCA trainings
Assist in organizing and facilitating community and organizational STEM related events
Ensure clear and effective communication between site staff and the STEM Director
Assist STEM Director in training site staff in equitable STEM facilitation practices
Periodically meet with STEM Director to assess program quality
Periodically meet with STEM Team to ensure STEM continuum and sustainability
Periodically complete quality assessments for STEM curriculum, programs, and activities.
Create path for career readiness and spark interest in STEM careers.
Ensure compliance with state and local regulations in addition to YMCA program standards and procedures
Provide for upkeep of assigned program facilities, equipment and ensure all safety standards are met
Maintain proper records, statistics and department files
Perform other duties as assigned


Qualifications:

Minimum age 18
One or more years' related experience planning and facilitating STEM activities with youth in a developmentally appropriate group setting.
Have a high school diploma or equivalent;
Provide document of all certification and training requirements established by DCYF, including position prerequisites, current negative TB test, fully vaccinated for MMR/other required vaccinations, and portable background check
Ability to travel to YMCA site locations and community organizations.
Plan, organize, and implement high quality developmentally appropriate programming.
Basic computer/typing skills and demonstrated ability to utilize standard office software
Fluency in second language desired

Physical Demands:
Lead and participate in a range of activities in indoor/outdoor settings. Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions of position and to safely supervise program activities. Staff may be required to move weights of approximately 50 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, employees are regularly required to sit, walk and stand; talk or hear, both in person and by telephone; use hands repetitively to handle, feel or operate standard office equipment; reach with hands and arms; and lift up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus.
