Job Description:

Primary Job Purpose: Assuring accurate scheduling and safe transportation of neighbors, items, or personnel as required by Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center.

Customer Service: Lead, empower and develop the transportation team to provide great customer service. Adherence to the MOSES program to include Mission, Ownership, Success, Excellence, and Service.

Essential Job Functions:


  • Responsible for budget of department, utilizing resources in a customer focused and cost-efficient manner.

  • Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing, and cooperate with many departments and community agencies.

  • Must portray a positive and professional image of Eben Ezer to the community, and maintain flexibility in working with outside agencies, physicians’ offices, etc.

  • Interacts with a wide variety of internal and external customers, such as various departments, doctors’ offices, beauticians, and other outing activities. Provides the highest level of customer service.

  • Schedule bus for regular maintenance, tire rotation, lift servicing, minor repairs, as well as annual inspections. Keep a log of all maintenance and repairs.

  • Ensure the transportation staff is being responsible for maintaining the bus in a clean and safe manner.

  • Must maintain a good driving record with no major moving violations.

  • Practices the Values, the Mission, and Philosophy of Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center.

  • Creates and maintains employee schedules to assure staff availability for all scheduled visits.

  • Hires and evaluates all transportation team members.

  • Utilizes team building skills.

  • Assists when needed to fill in for transportation duties.

  • Make arrangements with other outside transportation if required due to unavoidable conflicts in schedule.

  • Transport or pick-up paperwork, lab specimens, supplies, or other items as requested by other departments at Eben Ezer.

  • Maintain cleanliness of bus and adequate fuel supply.

  • Checking drivers’ weekly inspection sheets for bus and all equipment on the bus for safety and proper functioning. Monitoring the driver’s daily paperwork required.

  • Knowledge of motor vehicles and basic maintenance experience is preferred.

  • Responsible for keeping departmental policies and procedures current.

  • Must keep an accurate log of trips by mileage, destination, and reason for the trip.

  • Must complete travel vouchers for all neighbors, staff, equipment, etc. riding in the Eben Ezer vehicles.

  • Must maintain confidentiality of all work-related information according to HIPAA regulations.

  • Keep departmental policies and procedures up to date

  • Assure neighbors rights, privacy, and HIPAA regulations are followed.

  • Maintain records for Colorado Public Utilities Commission; keep up with regulations to maintain compliance.

  • In addition to the responsibilities described above, the role may include other responsibilities and duties as assigned on occasion, based upon Eben Ezer needs or requirements

Qualifications, Education: Must possess a valid Colorado driver’s license. Must meet insurance requirements. Experience working with elderly and disabled population is preferred. Must not have any physical or mental limitations that prevent operation of a motor vehicle. Supervisory skills and experience are preferred. Meets requirements of DORA Public Utilities Commission regulations.

Required Experience/Skills:


  • Knowledgeable and skilled in the use of computer with preferred experience involving Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

  • Must have the ability to work as part of a team and maintain a positive attitude.

  • Experience working with older adults is preferred.

  • Organizational skills to schedule resident appointments and transport them as requested by Eben Ezer staff or physician offices. May include assisting to transfer a resident to and from wheelchair to a secured seat.

Material and Equipment used: Required use of a seatbelt by driver as well as correct use of safety restraint belts when securing neighbors inside Eben Ezer transportation vehicles. Pushing of wheelchairs. Driving of van and larger passenger vehicles provided by Eben Ezer. Computer, calculator, telephone, copier, fax machine, cell phone and shredder.

Working Environment/Physical Activities: Working in an office as well as throughout the facility including neighbors’ rooms. Working in adverse weather conditions. Sits, stands, bends, lifts, pushing wheelchairs, and move intermittently during working hours. Must be able to push/pull up to 250 pounds regularly using a wheelchair. Must be able to lift 0-50 pounds regularly by self and 50+ pounds occasionally with assistance. Is subject to physically ill residents as well as hostile and emotionally upset residents, and/or families. May work beyond normal working hours, scheduled weekends, evenings and holidays as needed.

Working Hours: Full time, Monday-Friday as scheduled appointments: occasional scheduled transport of the weekend or after normal business hours. Assist with covering nightly on call hours when other drivers are not available. On-call will be required as needed. Overtime may be required. Schedule may vary, based on needs and supervisor discretion. 

Working Location: This is not a remote position and work must be performed in-person.

Compensation: An hourly wage will be paid for normal work hours and any overtime that is required. On-call will be paid at $1.00 per hour. If called into work while on-call, overtime will be paid with a minimum of one hour for each time called in.
