Primary Function

Balfour Beatty Rail provides design, engineering, construction and maintenance services for public and private railroad markets. Headquartered in Atlanta, Ga. it is part of Balfour Beatty plc, a global engineering, construction, services and investment organization specializing in large infrastructure and building programs. Balfour Beatty Rail's Total Power Group manufactures electrical components for the public transit industry, including light rail and streetcars.

TYPICAL DUTIES:

Establishes processes in progressive Manufacturing techniques, materials usage, capacity planning, production scheduling, quality, cost reduction, complete and on-time delivery, safety, customer satisfaction, employee relations, visual controls, plant performance measures and all aspects of running the CADD, engineering and project management teams.

Develop and deploy an effective operational strategy, effective commercial controls, finance accuracy and timely reporting.

Promote a safe workplace through systematic and proactive safety and environmental health practices and processes and leading the Zero Harm program.

Lead the development of a supply chain function that is extremely effective and will have a positive impact on the business.

Implement effective cost control systems, capital needs, operating expenditures, manpower, wages and salaries and personnel development.

Lead change in a positive manner, embracing the BB People First Culture.

Provide performance metrics for both short and long term measures.

As a senior member of leadership, this person will embody the highest levels of personal integrity and is responsible for establishing and upholding sound and ethical business practices that further the best interests of the Company, the suppliers, and its customers.

Years of experience are not as critical as the quality of experience. Nevertheless, a candidate should have fifteen (15) years of progressive manufacturing leadership.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS, & EXPERIENCE:

A bachelor's degree is required. Electrical Engineering or other technically related field preferred. A master's is highly preferred. High technical knowledge as evidenced in practical applications is more important than degree.

Candidates should have significant experience in the following:
  • Extensive general/plant management and leadership skills in identifying and assembling teams to drive results.
  • Creating and implementing successful manufacturing strategies
  • Supply Chain
  • P & L responsibility
  • Technical experience related to AC/DC substations, Traction Power, Signals, Comms, SCADA, engineering, standards, FAT process and similar electrical fields.
  • Assembling and leading teams of people across a wide range of disciplines.

The ability to plan strategically while performing the day-to-day tactics.

Excellent influencing and interpersonal skills to quickly step into new situations and develop a cohesive, effective team.

Strong analytical skills to assess, quantify, and resolve Op issues and trends.

Superior people management skills that encourage the development of employees through regular performance reviews, feedback, holding self and others accountable and provides appropriate & effective recognition.

Ability to develop and deploy progressive manufacturing systems.

A successful track-record of contributing to the establishment of a prosperous culture via demonstrated operational leadership.

Self-starter with a strong work ethic and an energetic style; sets the example and creates an environment of high expectations.

Hands-on individual, comfortable being out in the operations and with customers rather than office bound.

Team player, willing to challenge in a constructive manner.
