Xcel Mechanical Systems is seeking an entry-level Purchasing Assistant to join our growing Purchasing Department. The Purchasing Assistant will learn how to price and help to procure equipment, material, tools and subcontracted services for the company's ongoing, large and small commercial HVAC and plumbing construction projects. The is a full-time position based in Xcel Mechanical's headquarters in Gardena, CA, and offers competitive pay and benefits.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Report directly to the company's Purchasing Agent and assist with identified tasks
Assist in the procurement of equipment, material and tools needed to complete company construction projects
Become familiar with existing vendor relationships, create new vendor relationships as needed
Assist with maintaining and/or securing payment terms and discounts with all vendors
Obtain multiple vendor quotes to stay within project budgets
Assist in returning materials to vendors and track to ensure receipt of credit invoices.
Issue purchase orders and track back orders as needed
Collaborate closely with the company's Accounting Department
Ensure shipping documents are attached to the PO's in our ERP
Submit purchase history under different vendor rebate programs. Follow up on rebate checks.
Assist the Purchasing Agent for vendor-sponsored Lunch & Learn meetings.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILL REQUIREMENTS
Proficient knowledge of MS Office Tools (Outlook, Outlook Calendar, Excel, Word)
Experience in the mechanical and/or plumbing field preferred but not required
Interest in and/or knowledge of commercial HVAC and plumbing equipment and materials
Purchasing experience preferred but not required
Highly organized and detail-oriented
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Quick and sound decision-making abilities with exceptional follow-through
Ability to adapt to changing environment and handle multiple priorities
Highly motivated and flexible personality that embraces a proactive and fast-paced environment
