An Estimator is responsible for cost calculations to determine how much it will cost a company to complete a project or provide products and services to its clients. They do this by researching the costs of the materials, transport, labor and equipment.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Researching the cost of items such as materials, transport, labor and equipment.
Establishing and maintaining relationships with contractors and vendors.
Getting quotes from suppliers and contractors within a specified time frame, spread bids amongst multiple suppliers and contractors to determine who we will go with in our estimate.
Assessing the risk levels associated with a project.
Preparing and submitting proposals and details of cost breakdowns for work to be done.
Assisting with bids for new contracts and supporting the activities of buyers
Monitoring the cost at the different states of a project to ensure it stays within the estimated costs.
Updating estimates information & communication in Salesforce.com, including follow-up communication regarding proposals status.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet, estimating software and Salesforce.com.
The ability to read architectural plans and develop cost estimates.
Strong analytical skills, attention to detail and ability to manage time appropriately.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in mathematics, finance, accounting, statistics, or another related field.
Training in estimating or project management with relevant work experience.
2+ years of experience working as an estimator.
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Walking short distances.
Bending, stooping or twisting.
Reaching above and/or below shoulders.
Clear speaking and adequate hearing sufficient to communicate effectively and respond appropriately in person and/or on the telephone.
Requires exertion of force of 25 pounds occasionally, 10 pounds frequently, and/or 5 pounds continuously to lift/carry/move objects, files and documents.
Work is performed primarily in an office environment using standard office equipment.
