THE OPPORTUNITY
You will assume a role as a technical leader for the design and development of spaceflight robotic and electromechanical hardware. These systems may range in complexity from single degree of freedom linear and rotary actuators to multi degree of freedom mechanisms, robotic arms, and robotic platforms. You will be involved with every aspect of the engineering process to take these systems from conception to space. Additionally, you will help to set internal design standards and best practices for spaceflight hardware development.
The successful applicant will be undaunted by a challenge, eager to lead and mentor a multidisciplinary team of engineers and have complex systems engineering experience in the design and qualification of multi-degree-of-freedom electromechanical systems for spaceflight applications.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
System level requirements and architecture of multi-degree-of-freedom electromechanical systems for spaceflight applications
Design of complex electromechanical hardware
Design, analysis, and component selection for custom DC electric actuators (BLDC motors, Geartrains: Epicyclic, Strain wave, Cycloidal, etc, Encoders, Sensors, etc)
Full life cycle development of hardware (Requirements, System Architecture, Design, Analysis, Prototype, Assembly, Testing, Qualification, and Deployment)
Develop internal design standards and best practices for spaceflight hardware development
Be a technical leader for a multidisciplinary team of engineers
Lead design reviews with internal and external stakeholders
Communicate frequently and effectively with team members
Be responsible for deadlines
Be technically excellent and accountable for your work
Constantly strive to improve your own technical skills, company processes, and be willing to both teach and learn from your peers

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechatronics, or similar discipline relevant to the design of complex electromechanical hardware and multi-degree-of-freedom systems
10+ years of engineering experience including 5+ years' experience designing electromechanical hardware for spaceflight applications
Experience using relevant standards and best practices for developing and qualifying spaceflight hardware for DOD, NASA, or Commercial Spaceflight applications
Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor a cross disciplinary team of engineers (mechanical, electrical, software)
Hands on experience prototyping, assembling, and testing electromechanical hardware
Sound understanding of the spaceflight environment (thermal, radiation, vacuum, etc), launch loads, and ability to transfer this knowledge into design requirements for hardware development
Demonstrated ability to use data and analysis to inform design decisions
Proof of US Citizenship or US Permanent Residency is required to comply with ITAR regulations
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
Master's degree or higher in a discipline related robotics or control theory
Experience in the design and development of multi-degree-of-freedom robotic systems
Experience at a lean engineering organization or in a highly technical position that required a scrappy, entrepreneurial manner to accomplish tasks with tight time or budget constraints
