Volt is immediately hiring a Controller in Carpinteria, CA.

As a Controller you will:

The Controller will oversee all financial operations, ensuring compliance and accuracy. Reporting to the off-site Interim-CFO, they will collaborate closely with senior management to drive financial strategies and goals. The ideal candidate is experienced in maintaining a perpetual inventory system, international logistics, and is comfortable with daily hands-on transactional work.

  • Accounting Operations: Managing inventory and general ledger. Overseeing accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll.
  • Cashflow: Monitoring and analyzing cash flow and reconciling bank accounts.
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare, analyze, and present monthly, quarterly, and annual income tax basis financial statements. Ensure accuracy and timeliness of all financial reporting.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting: Lead the annual budgeting process and develop financial forecasts. Monitor budget performance and provide variance analysis.
  • Internal Controls: Develop, implement, and maintain internal control policies and procedures to ensure the integrity of financial data and safeguard company assets.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with all state, and federal tax and accounting regulations, including corporate payroll and excise tax return filings, and federal regulations i.e. OSHA.
  • Responsible for all year-end accounting workpapers for third-party accountants.
  • Financial Analysis: Conduct financial analysis to support decision-making processes, identify trends, and provide recommendations for improving financial performance.
  • Team Leadership: Manage and mentor the accounting team.
  • Systems Improvement: Continuously evaluate and improve financial systems and processes to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other departments to support cross-functional initiatives and ensure alignment with financial objectives.


This is a full-time, Direct Hire opportunity.


The ideal candidate will have:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in accounting is required; CPA or CMA certification preferred.
  • Required Experience:
  • A minimum of 5-7 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 5 years in a similar type of company (e.g., import company), and 2 years of public accounting experience is required.
  • Expertise in international logistics, international business (exchange rates), and inventory landed cost tracking is required.
  • Technical Skills: Strong working knowledge and familiarity with an ERP system is required, and experience with Syspro is preferred. Proficiency in accounting software and advanced Excel skills.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide actionable insights.
  • Leadership: Proven leadership abilities with a track record of building and managing high-performing teams.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and attention to detail in all aspects of work.
  • Ethical Standards: Demonstrated integrity and ethical standards in financial management.



Salary: $110K - 150K/year
