Summary of Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Manage Office of Veteran and Military Student Success. Responsible for retention and recruitment of veteran and military students. Certifies academic records for veteran students Counsels students regarding academic and governmental regulations.




  • Certification of academic records for all veteran students, benefits counseling, expediting claims, and ensuring the certification of veteran benefits comply with Veterans Administration and other related regulations.

  • Must perform duties independently with minimal supervision, and exercise careful judgment to resolve sensitive issues related to the daily administration of veteran services.

  • Responsible for researching and interpreting laws and regulations governing receipt of veteran educational benefits and for assisting veterans approving agencies in conducting annual audits, as well as advising the Registrar of pending circumstances or events in which have influence on institutional policy concerning veterans affairs.

  • Supervise VA Certification Specialist and student employees

  • Coordinates recruitment initiatives including initiatives at Ft. Campbell and other military facilities.

  • Supervise the Office of Veteran and Military Student Success and the Veteran and Military Student lounge.

  • Liaison with the Bursar's Office, Registrar, Enrollment Management, Student Engagement and Success, Academic Affairs, and Student Affairs and external constituents such as Veterans Affairs, Vocational; Rehabilitation, and mental health professionals to support student success, persistence, retention, and graduation.

  • Assist with Summer Orientation, Great Beginnings, Family Weekend, Racer Days, New Student Open House, and other recruitment and enrollment activities/events.

  • Liaison with the Veteran Student Organization and advisor

  • Maintain positive military related rankings

  • Coordinate the MSU Veterans Day Celebration and Program

  • Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Education Requirements:



  • Bachelor's degree.


Minimum Experience and Skill Requirements:



  • Experience working directly with veterans and other college students.

  • Must demonstrate excellent interpersonal, organizational, oral and written communication skills.

  • Must have the ability to exercise sound decision-making and a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Must be able to successfully perform duties in stressful, time sensitive situations.

  • Ability to ensure confidentiality and privacy.

  • Veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces.


Preferred Education and/or Experience Qualifications:



  • Master's degree.

  • Experience working with VA Once and Similar VA office online software.
