Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) is seeking a Propulsion Engineer in the St. Charles, MO area to work design, analysis, modeling, simulation, integration, and testing of advanced development air-breathing and solid rocket motor propulsion systems.

Boeing Defense and Space Systems is growing in the area of aircraft, missile, weapons and autonomous system Propulsion System design, development, integration and test. The selected candidate will work in the Fixed Wing Aircraft, Cruise Missile Systems (CMS) and/or Phantom Works organizations.

The successful candidate will work on leading-edge propulsion technology including air-breathing turbojet engines, rockets, and ramjets. As a member of the Flight Systems Capability, occasional assignments supporting other programs may occur from time to time to support surges in new business.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Define requirements for propulsion systems, auxiliary power systems, and vehicle fuel/ tank systems
  • Define, coordinate and control the functional and physical interfaces between the propulsion system and the vehicle
  • Develop specifications and architectural and configuration concepts for associated vehicle systems to meet customer and regulatory requirements
  • Configure or design propulsion sub-systems and components to meet all vehicle design and performance criteria
  • Use various testing, analysis, modeling and simulation tools to estimate or calculate system performance
  • Define and perform certification tests for propulsion sub-systems and components
  • Support fielded systems to assure continued reliability
  • Develop concepts for future propulsion systems to meet anticipated requirements


This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position requires the ability to obtain a US Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.
  • Knowledge of vehicle flight performance
  • 3+ years of experience performing rocket, turbine, or ramjet Propulsion development, development engineering and/or analysis for Launch Vehicles, Spacecraft, Missiles, High Speed aircraft, or similar vehicles


Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
  • Active US Secret clearance
  • Master's Degree or higher from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
  • 3+ years of experience in Flight Operations Engineering
  • 3+ years' experience with missiles, weapons systems
  • 3+ years' experience with propulsion system testing and/or flight testing
  • 5+ year's related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 10+ year's related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience


Typical Education/Experience:

Experienced (Level 3)

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Lead (Level 4)

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Senior (Level 5)

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years' related work experience, Master+12 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Mid-Level (Level 3) Summary pay range: $93,500 - $126,500

Lead (Level 4) Summary pay range: $113,900 - $154,100

Senior (Level 5) Summary pay range: $138,550 - $187,450
