Job Description:

MTM Trailer Manufacturing, a pioneering force in the development of high-performance, semi end-dump trailers, seeks a passionate and visionary Director of Engineering to lead our growing engineering team and expand our product lines. This hybrid position offers the flexibility of splitting your time between working collaboratively in our Kewanee, IL office and working remotely.

As the head of design and manufacturing engineering, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our products by providing strategic direction and leadership across all aspects of the engineering function, from guiding the design and development of innovative trailers to optimizing manufacturing processes and spearheading continuous improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities:
  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute a comprehensive engineering vision that aligns with the company's overall goals and objectives. Provide insightful guidance and direction to the engineering team, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment that thrives on achieving results.
  • Product Development: Lead the charge in designing and developing new trailers, overseeing the entire product lifecycle from initial concept to successful production launch. Ensure adherence to the highest quality standards while maintaining cost-effectiveness and operational efficiency.
  • Team Development: Lead and manage a growing team of talented engineers, fostering a culture of open communication, professional growth, and continuous learning. Delegate tasks effectively, empower team members to excel, and celebrate their achievements.
  • Process Optimization: Develop and implement robust engineering processes and standards that guarantee exceptional product quality, streamline operations, and minimize costs. Drive continuous improvement initiatives, actively identifying areas for optimization in both manufacturing processes and product designs.
  • Technology Advocate: Embrace advancements in engineering technology. Utilize Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to analyze the structural integrity of aluminum designs (a plus). Leverage Solidworks for 3D modeling and design to enhance product development (a plus).
  • Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Build strong relationships and foster seamless collaboration across various departments, including manufacturing, sales, and marketing. Ensure clear communication and information sharing throughout the product development and launch process.
  • Industry Trendsetter: Stay abreast of the latest trends and advancements in trailer manufacturing technology. Identify emerging technologies and market needs to inform future product development strategies.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in design and/or manufacturing engineering, preferably within the trailer industry or a highly relevant application.
  • Proven track record of leading and managing engineering teams with a results-oriented approach, including hiring and training of new engineers
  • Demonstrated success in guiding complex engineering projects from conception to successful completion.
  • In-depth understanding of engineering principles, encompassing statics, dynamics, and materials science.
  • Extensive experience in designing with welded and fabricated structural aluminum products.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of aluminum extrusion sourcing and selection processes.
  • Proficiency in aluminum welding techniques (a plus)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a data-driven approach.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
  • Entrepreneurial experience developing teams and products in a startup environment (a plus)
