Sr. Data Scientist

Downtown Houston, TX

Summary:

This senior data scientist will lead multiple initiatives within the growing portfolio data science and machine learning projects throughout the organization. Their primary responsibilities are to craft experiments, test hypothesis, and build data science products that support the major corporate initiatives throughout the client's Gas and Electric businesses. This role will join a growing team of data scientists and machine learning engineers to solve key business needs. They will collaborate with data scientists, SMEs and communicate results to non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities for the role:
  • Develop machine learning and statistical methods to solve business problems.
  • Form hypotheses and create experiments to test your theories.
  • Produce clear documentation that other technical team members can follow.
  • Provide insights and recommendations to influence product development decisions.
  • Build and prototype analysis and business cases iteratively to provide insights at scale.
  • Represent the client on various industry forums such as UAI, EPRI, EEI, etc.
  • Clearly communicate progress or challenges to product owners throughout each sprint.
  • Collaborate and maintain codebases using standard version control and GIT principles.
  • Be a mentor and advocate for the team.

Required Skills the candidate must have:
  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline: Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science etc.
  • Minimum of 4 year of experience working as a Data Scientist or in a related field.
  • Experience with SQL and relational or schema-less (NoSQL) databases.
  • Experience with programming languages: Python, JavaScript, R, MATLAB, etc.
  • Experience with cloud technologies: Google Cloud Platform, AWS, Azure, or related tools.
  • Strong ability to work collaboratively within a team to solve complex problems.
  • Experience applying statistical, ML or other predictive models to real world problems.
  • Strong version control experience, especially working within a collaborative team.

Preferred Skills we would like the candidate to have:
  • Master's/PhD degree in a STEM discipline: Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science etc.
  • Experience working within an electric or natural gas utility.
