Swift Current Energy, a renewable energy project developer, owner, and operator ("Swift Current" or the "Company") is seeking a Manager of High Voltage Engineering to act as an internal subject matter expert regarding electrical power generating systems. The Company has primary offices in Boston MA, Houston TX, and Yarmouth ME; this role is ideally based in the Houston office, with periodic travel to project sites and Company offices as required.

Reporting to the EVP of Engineering and Performance Analytics, the Manager, High Voltage Engineering will work with an experienced team comprised of project developers, finance, transmission, procurement, construction, and project management experts as they create and review designs for utility-scale Solar PV, Wind, and Energy Storage projects. Job Scope:

The primary responsibilities of the Manager, High Voltage Engineering include the following:
  • Experience in working on engineering, designing & construction of high voltage and medium voltage substations and equipment, including HV gen-ties and MV collector systems.
  • Work with the development, pre-construction and transmission teams in the early stages of the project to perform high-level evaluation of projects including substation single-line designs and equipment sizing, etc.
  • Support Development and Interconnection teams in preparing interconnection applications and ensuring the HV/MV preliminary design meets RTUs/utilities requirements.
  • Be able to work with local utilities to ensure grid code compliance and coordinate on various tests and project milestones necessary to bring the project online.
  • Be able to specify, evaluate, and size MPT/GSU and other long lead HV equipment and work with procurement to place orders based on project needs and equipment lead times.
  • Develop and maintain standards and scope of work for high voltage equipment and EPC contracting.
  • Knowledgeable in reactive power compensation studies, ampacity studies, short circuit current studies, power flow, and other relevant studies.
  • Experience in developing and reviewing relay protection settings.
  • Interacting with outside engineering firms and utilities on design and project-specific requirements.
  • Review EPC's design submittals and provide timely responses and guidance as necessary.
  • Ability to manage third party engineering consultants, Independent Engineers, and other related parties in support of project schedules, risk mitigation, and budgets.
  • Other duties as may be required.
  • The expected travel for this position is approximately 25-50%. Job responsibilities may evolve based on Company needs and individual career growth.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Minimum of 6 years' experience in HV and MV engineering, design, and commissioning for utility-scale renewable power plants
  • High voltage experience is required.
  • Prior experience working with transmission lines design and construction (115kV and above)
  • Knowledge of DC side of PV plants is a plus.
  • Working experience in developing and reviewing electrical drawings using AutoCAD or similar software.
  • Energy storage experience is desirable but not required
  • Current authorization to live and work in the U.S.
