Job Description:

DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS
  • Full-Time Position
  • Application Due: July 15, 2024
  • Start Date: Flexible

Are you inspired to help a small organization reduce single-use waste in the Bay Area? Want to work with a team actively working to build a new low-waste model for the grocery industry? Come join our growing team :)

Re-Up Refills is seeking a Director of Operations to oversee the day-to-day operations of ReUp Refill's brick-and-mortar retail location in Oakland, CA. The Director of Operations executes Re-Up Refill's strategic environmental vision, working to align operational activities with our key organizational goals and objectives all in the effort to reduce regional and community-wide single-use waste.

ABOUT RE-UP REFILLS

Since 2019, Re-Up Refills has provided bulk groceries in refillable containers with a mission to create a better grocery system, where waste is minimized, products are responsibly sourced, and consumers are informed about environmental and social issues. Groceries... without all the waste.

In 2023, we diverted more than 135,000 single use plastic containers... that's 168 cubic yards of trash - enough to fill 84 commercial dumpsters!

Our mission-driven business, and our small adjacent waste reduction non-profit, WasteWhat, are interested in what's good for the planet long term, but also for our team and the surrounding community. We hope to reshape the consumption narrative and teach the past generation, the current generation, and the next generation the importance of waste reduction and rethinking the way we consume, opting for a system that prioritizes ditching single-use waste for a more circular alternative and solution.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Director of Operations is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations at the refill shop and helping to create a less wasteful grocery store experience. The Director of Operations will be responsible for a wide range of tasks including but not limited to:

  • QUALITY ASSURANCE & CUSTOMER RELATIONS: Ensuring refill service meets high quality standards and continues to lead to consistent high customer satisfaction.
  • PARTNERSHIPS & COLLABORATION: Both internally among staff and with co-founders, and externally, working closely with vendors, manufacturers, granting agencies, and community partners.
