Position Summary:

To manage and direct the manufacturing and packaging operations at Sunstar Americas, Inc., to deliver product on time at the expected quality and cost to meet corporate objectives, customer service levels within established budgetary guidelines. To organize and harmonize manufacturing workforces/resources as a team.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Promote and adhere to Sunstar's Quality policy, Fundamental Management Principles and Guiding Principles for Employees.
  • Support the QMS System by ensuring compliance with applicable regulations through proper documentation and record keeping.
  • Promote operational excellence by monitoring and ensuring that safety practices, GMP procedures and company policies are observed in the manufacturing area.
  • Develops and communicates Key Performance Indicators (KPI's) and Goals / Objectives consistent with the overall company's goals, at the fiscal year and Mid Term Plan levels.
  • Reviews with the Planning department deviations in the execution of the monthly production plan, identifies root causes and implements corrective actions.
  • In conjunction with Planning, identifies mid / long term production constraints and makes recommendations on the appropriate course of action.
  • Identifies trends and issues and leads direct and indirect staff to improve productivity and quality levels to meet departmental goals.
  • Leads the continuous improvement efforts to streamline operations and reduce production costs.
  • Works closely with Manufacturing Engineering & Maintenance to improve the equipment reliability through the timely execution of the PM program.
  • Participates in the development of budget plan and once established, leads and monitors execution.
  • Monitors that all areas of responsibility comply with inventory, materials ordering, production reporting and work order closing procedures.
  • Monitors floor shop inventory levels & accuracy
  • Works with Engineering to correct actual vs. standard deviations for output rates, BOMs, routers, etc.
  • Actively participates with Engineering in the planning and execution of capital projects.
  • Assures that adequate communication is maintained amongst shifts in manufacturing / packaging departments. Communicates issues, changes and recommendations related to area of responsibility, as needed, across functions and levels of the company.
  • Determines with Planning staffing levels required to meet production needs for the mid and long term.
  • Assures that temporary and regular direct labor staffing levels are achieved as per the business plan.
  • Evaluates direct reports' performance levels and provides formal / informal feedback to employees.
  • Interviews and selects new hires for the functions reporting to this position.
  • Submits documentation for payroll and other personnel administrative processes.
  • Assures that adequate training is provided for all new and existing temporary and regular employees.

Education
  • Four years Engineering or Management Degree.MS or MBA desirable.

Knowledge/Experience
  • At least 10 years of progressive experience in manufacturing operations, with at least five years in a significant injection molding/manufacturing management role with experience on labor, capital equipment and production supplies.
  • Three years of experience in the manufacturing of medical devices or other regulated industry
  • Working knowledge of GMP, ISO and ERP systems
