Role Summary:

Assists in the development and implementation of departmental policies and procedures to ensure efficient purchasing of materials for the assigned region in alignment with corporate policies and procedures.

Location: Can sit in any of our following locations; Durham, NC, Tempe, AZ or Indianapolis, IN.

Essential Duties and responsibilities

  • Plans and implements activities related to the procurement of materials, parts, components and equipment.
  • Collaborates with other purchasing managers, buyers, project engineers and expeditors to accomplish company objectives.
  • Reviews and approves timely purchases over a specified dollar amount set by company standards.
  • Develops new supply sources and negotiates contracts with new and existing suppliers involving large dollar amounts and assists with national contacts where applicable to improve overall company performance.
  • Develops policies and procedures for the operation of procurement activities.
  • Coordinates these procedures with accounting and estimating to create a more cohesive business environment.
  • Develops supplier scorecard and performs supplier audits and analyzes supplier performance. Conduct visits with suppliers to evaluate and analyze supplier capacity and performance. Solicits and evaluates competitive bids including specifications, terms and conditions.
  • Assists the project management team in monitoring the cost, schedule and performance aspects of major subcontracts within assigned geography.
  • Works with project team members to coordinate purchasing activities for jobsites and assists project staff with maintenance of inventories at planned levels.
  • Develops procedures to protect against over ordering materials and incorrect ordering of equipment for projects.
  • Develops procedure to deal with excess materials that exist from completed projects.
  • Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the

Qualifications

  • General understanding of purchasing and supply chain management best practices and policies in a construction environment.
  • Familiarity with the mechanical piping industry. Ability to operationalize strategic goals and objectives into departmental policies and procedures.
  • 5+ years of industry-related purchasing management experience.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience is required.
  • Strong negotiating skills required.
  • Ability to work independently and/or in a team environment.
  • Must be detail oriented and have excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • MS office proficiency required. PICS certification or C.P.M. is highly desirable.
