Project Accountant

Farmington Hills, MI (hybrid schedule possible after 3-6mo training period with at least 3 days per week in F. Hills office)

  • As the Project Accountant, you will work collaboratively and independently to ensure compliance with GAAP, company policies, and department goals. You will assist the Controller and the President & CEO with the daily functions of the Accounting Department. You will be responsible for all functions and activities that pertain to both Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable and will take the initiative to resolve any issues or concerns. You should have a strong attention to detail, exhibit good decision-making skills, and have a service-oriented customer service attitude. A background in NetSuite (or other similar ERP/accounting system is a must, NetSuite experience strongly preferred).
  • In this role you will report directly to the Controller in our Farmington Hills, MI headquarters office. This position can potentially be performed under a hybrid schedule with regular weekly travel to the headquarters office.

WHAT YOU'LL DO (RESPONSIBILITIES):
  • Create project accounts in NetSuite/QuickBooks/Teams/other applicable systems
  • Assist with NetSuite reporting/accounting/financials
  • Responsible for account coding & posting for AP/AR, bills/invoices, and credit card transactions
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies from AP/AR and credit card transactions
  • Prepare, enter and maintain filing of Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable
  • Responsible for online bill payments for AP/AR
  • Job Cost knowledge including AIA Documents
  • Multistate Sales Tax on AP/AR
  • Prepare & manage bank deposits
  • Prepare journal entries
  • Maintain deferred revenue & amortization schedules
  • Reconcile Prepaid and Revenue Support documents using Excel and NetSuite
  • Create Customer & Vendor records in NetSuite
  • Collect and verify W-9 forms and Certificates of Liabilities
  • Collaborate and investigate outstanding invoices, make collection calls, negotiate payment terms, and process liens for collections when necessary.
  • Provide feedback and process improvements.
  • Additional administrative/clerical duties as may be assigned as needed

EXPERIENCE YOU HAVE:
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in an accounting role, preferably activity-based cost accounting
  • Previous experience with ERP/Accounting systems, highly preferable NetSuite experience
  • Accounts Payable/Receivable or other related bookkeeping experience
  • Notary Public is a plus
  • Must have strong Organizational skills
  • Proficient MS Excel/Word/Outlook skills
  • Advanced skills in MS Excel (Pivot Tables, advanced formulas & functions, etc.) strongly preferred

EDUCATIONAL/VOCATIONAL TRAINING YOU HAVE:
  • Bachelors degree in a related field (Accounting, Finance, etc.)
  • Advanced Excel training or equivalent strongly preferred (Pivot Tables, advanced formulas & functions, etc.)
  • Any related professional certifications are not required but are a plus
