Lynker is seeking an experienced Environmental Data Analyst to support NOAA’s Northwest Fisheries science Center with the analysis of stream invertebrate drift and estuarine invertebrate assemblages across the Pacific Northwest. The goal is to integrate these data into salmon life cycle models for effective restoration planning. This role is crucial in providing key insights into the food resources for juvenile salmonids, including Chinook and coho salmon, and steelhead trout, thereby aiding habitat restoration actions.



Responsibilities

  1. Data Analysis:
  • Analyze estuarine and stream environmental, invertebrate, and fish data to help identify and prioritize habitat restoration actions for salmon and steelhead.
  • Assist quantitative scientists in developing salmon life cycle models that incorporate food availability.
  • Provide quantitative analysis of spatial and temporal variability in invertebrate abundance, biomass, taxa richness, composition, and energy density.
  • Analyze relationships between fish density, biomass, growth, survival, and environmental conditions, including invertebrate assemblages.
  • Field Data Collection and Processing:
    • Collect and process field data to support efforts in understanding food availability for juvenile salmonids.
    • Provide written documentation of field efforts, including photos, videos, data collected and processed, and the status of field data.
  • Data Management and Documentation:
    • Maintain detailed records of work completed, including data summaries, spreadsheets, graphics, statistical code, and maps.
    • Provide written documentation of data and model development for reports and contribute to journal manuscripts and science communication.
    • Produce monthly progress reports detailing accomplishments, issues encountered, and travel.


    Qualifications

    • Education: BS degree from an accredited college or university with a majorin environmental science, ecology, or related fields.
    • 1-2 years experience with data analysis, particularly in relation to aquatic and terrestrial invertebrates and fish populations.
    • Proficiency in statistical analysis and data visualization tools.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Experience with field data collection and processing.
