ABOUT THE ROLE

Under the direction of the Controller, the Accounting Manager manages the financial reporting functions of the firm, including the monthly close process, supervising domestic and foreign office general ledger maintenance, fixed asset and accounting for related entities. The Accounting Manager is responsible for coordinating the year-end audit of the firm's financial statements. Assists in monitoring and reporting on the operation of internal controls to comply with established best practices and legislation, specifically addressing the risks related to financial reporting and safeguarding of cash. Provides effective coaching and supervision to direct reports and department members. Ensures client services and satisfaction are attained in all areas of position.

  • Working closely with the Controller, manage the Firm's general ledger accounting functions, ensuring that transactions are recorded in accordance with the modified cash basis of accounting, as used for US federal income tax reporting purposes.
  • Manage the accounting and financial reporting for other related entities including but not limited to the Morrison & Foerster Foundation, Global Privacy Alliance, Singapore LLP, MoFo China Corporate Services and other legal entities operating in the Firm's foreign offices.
  • Prepare the firm's combined financial statements and accompanying notes for review by the Controller, subject to an annual independent audit.
  • Review the quarterly and annual bank covenant reports prepared by the Senior Accountant for banks with whom the firm has a line of credit.
  • Responsible for maintaining the Firm's Chart of Accounts.
  • Ensure an efficient and timely monthly close process, using checklists, analytics and other tools; coordinate with other departments to ensure efficient and timely delivery of information necessary for the monthly close and for the interim and annual audits.
  • Review the monthly reconciliation and analysis of general ledger accounts.
  • Review monthly journal entries prepared by staff for each accounting period, to ensure completeness and accuracy for reporting on a combined and operating unit level.
  • Develop, update, implement and document accounting policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that the principles of proper combination of separate legal entities and elimination of intercompany accounts are applied.

ABOUT YOU

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting; CPA or CMA certification preferred.
  • At least 10 (ten) years' demonstrated progression to supervisory or managerial positions.
  • Experience in supervising teams of 4+ people.
  • Hands-on experience in managing general accounting operations and performing accounting analysis.
  • Experience in internal audit or internal controls testing highly preferred.
  • Strong accounting and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build effective internal and external client relationships.
  • Strong team management and leadership skills, with a proven ability to develop and lead in a client service environment. Ability to lead through objectives and to motivate top performance.
  • Demonstrated success in leading a diverse team in a high performance environment. Specific ability to motivate and inspire non-exempt and exempt staff.
  • Ability to manage multiple requests, assess priorities, and achieve solutions under deadlines.
  • Ability to independently assess client needs and to develop responsive solutions.

Where required by law, salary ranges are stated below. Additional compensation may include a discretionary bonus, overtime as applicable, health/welfare benefits, retirement contributions, paid holidays, and PTO. The range displayed is specifically for positions performed in those cities/states and may vary based on factors including but not limited to the following: local market data and ranges; an applicant's skills and prior relevant experience; and certain degrees, licensing, and certifications.

San Francisco, Palo Alto salary range: $120K to $180K
