This job is located in Frederick County.

JOB SUMMARY
This position will provide counseling and training assistance to entrepreneurs in the Frederick County office.
The Business Consultant (Counselor) is responsible for providing existing entrepreneurs with general business
information and assistance which includes development of long-term strategic goals and objectives; expansion
of personnel and human resources; management of finances to ensure stability and growth through financing
from a variety of sources; and guidance on strategies to increase profit and sales revenues. This position will
also document assistance provided to ensure accurate case management and compliance with contract
reporting requirements. This part time position will work an anticipated 28 hours/week. It reports to the
Regional Director of the Northern Region. The incumbent has independent judgment and latitude in the
performance of duties.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Provide in-depth client management and assistance to existing entrepreneurs utilizing prior small
business experience and knowledge. Provide business assistance and coaching in development of
long-term strategic goals and objectives; growth of personnel and human resources; business
expansion strategies; and marketing plans. Review and critique loan applications including preparation
of financial statements for loan applications. Conduct market research for recommendations on
potential business expansion. Conduct data analysis of industry trends and business ratios to provide
advice to clients of operational strategies. (70%)
2. Present/facilitate at various outreach events. Report on economic impact data to federal, state, and
local stakeholders, including legislators. Work independently to develop curriculum and present
seminars on various aspects of business operations, including identifying and coordinating outside
resources. (20%)
3. In conjunction with Regional Director, develop and implement the Network strategic plan. Recommend
strategic tasks to improve service delivery based on daily activities. (10%)
4. Performs other duties as assigned.


Job Requirements:
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:
-Bachelor’s degree in business or related industry required.
-3-5 years of relevant small business experience.
-Experience must include working with existing/established businesses.
-Strong financial analysis skills with proven experience using software to conduct in-depth financial analysis of small business concerns or loan packaging.

-Ability to interact with a variety of clients.
-Excellent interpersonal skills including outstanding communications skills, oral and written.
-Ability to work independently.
-Must be positive, cooperative, and supportive.


Preferred:
MBA or master’s degree in related field and 3-5 years relevant small business experience.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The work is normally light work which requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible
amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Periodically, it
requires standing for longer periods of time during presentations or fairs. Additionally, the following physical
abilities are required:
-Hear/talk/communicate – Must be able to exchange information and communicate
-Visual acuity - Ability to perceive or detect surroundings
-Mental acuity – Ability to focus, concentrate, understand, and convey subject matter
-Repetitive motion (i.e., keyboarding)
-Stand/sit/walk – Ability to move or traverse from one area to another


WORK ENVIRONMENT:
College campus, direct contact with diverse students, staff, faculty and the general public in classrooms,
common areas, offices, and campus environments. Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts
which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as office, meeting, and training rooms. Use of
safe workplace practices with office equipment; computers for data entry and word processing with some
highly technical applications and new technology systems; avoidance of trips and falls; observance of fire and
building safety regulations; observance of college vehicle policies and laws when/if driving a college vehicle
and observance of all college policies.

Salary: This part-time, Grant Funded position hourly rate of pay is $43.05.
