The Magnet Science and Technology (MS&T) Division of the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory (NHMFL) is seeking an exceptional individual for a Research Engineer position to work as a mechanical design engineer applying standard engineering practices, procedures, and criteria in designing complex high field magnet assemblies. We are seeking candidates who are highly motivated and eager to work flexibly and creatively in a cross-disciplinary team environment.
This position involves design from engineering prototype to final system and design from conceptual to detailed. The role also includes technology development, fabrication process development, preparation of engineering documentation, and supply chain management.
This position is responsible for mechanical design applying standard engineering practices, procedures, and criteria in designing complex high field magnet assemblies at the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory.
A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field and two years of experience; or a high school diploma/equivalent and experience equal to six years. (Note: post-high school education can substitute for experience at the equivalent rate.)
The NHMFL is operated for the National Science Foundation by a collaboration of institutions comprising Florida State University, the University of Florida, and Los Alamos National Laboratory. The NHMFL is the world's premier magnet laboratory with state-of-the-art high magnetic field facilities (up to 32 T in superconducting magnets, 41 T in resistive DC magnets, 45 T in hybrid DC magnets) for research in physics, materials science, engineering, chemistry, geochemistry, biochemistry, and biology.
