Job Description:

The Gannett Florida Sports Network, part of Gannett Co., Inc. and the USA TODAY NETWORK, is seeking the right candidate to lead our sports print and digital planning. The digital-first journalist will play a pivotal newsroom role to ensure high-impact sports journalism reaches a maximum digital and print audience, helping to support and grow readership while retaining subscription bases.

This salaried role will serve as the architect of print publication planning in the USA Today Florida Network while serving an important digital role to maximize page view audience and subscription growth. The Planner will ensure that the right content is published and delivered to the right audience in the right way on the right platforms at the right time, both in advance planning and execution. Using analytics to create plans, adjust plans in real time and help advise on reporting holes or opportunities is key.

This is a multi-newsroom, multi-platform role that requires flexibility and communication to navigate the dynamic changes of the modern newsroom. The Planner will work strategically with other journalists to brainstorm and execute digital storytelling, such as photos, videos, graphics, sidebars and social cards. This person will also be familiar with native platform management with home page/app curation, newsletters and push alerts; search optimization; and social media platforms.

The Planner specializing in Sports is a strategic partner for local editors and reporters within the USA Today Florida Network. This person will have or hone strong news judgment toward promoting stories on our native platforms, search, social and in print. Editors trust their Producer/Planner partner to make independent decisions about how and where content is presented.

Qualifications:

-- Bachelor's in Communication, Journalism, or equivalent experience and education.

-- At least 5 years of reporting/editing experience.

-- Proficiency building a brand on social media.

-- Effective communicator; able to get along with diverse personalities.

-- Able to multitask and excel under intense deadline pressure in a rapidly changing industry.

-- Knows how to use time efficiently in a 24-hour newsroom.

-- Works collaboratively within a cross-functional environment.

-- Deep understanding of and curiosity about competition for our customers' time and money.

-- Self-motivation and self-direction.

-- Applies innovative, creative thinking to support Free Press goals.

-- Writing, spelling, grammar, AP and local style.

-- Command of media law and Principles of Ethical Conduct.

-- Valid driver's license required.
