The Job Details are as follows:

Performs high level analysis and design of software programs and systems. Create, analyze, design, modify and test programs and systems. Architect and prototype systems.

Major responsibilities:

• Provides technical leadership to organization in specific area of expertise or domain.


• Assumes the technical lead and is the architect for major OCLC systems or concepts.


• Ensures that information and trends within their area of expertise are effectively communicated to relevant business units within OCLC.


• Prototypes systems in anticipation of new requirements.


• Develops functional requirements from prototype systems.


• Analyzes and solves problems in existing systems.


• Designs, codes and tests multiple modules of a system in a timely manner.


• Uses industry standard programming techniques to translate requirements and designs into code.


• Evaluates and recommends major changes to development practices and continually seeks improvements to development procedures in such areas as
  
  
  • New languages and operating systems,
  
  
  • Relevant ISO and NISO standards within OCLC projects,
  
  
  • Improvements to system performance and design, and
  
  
  • Interpretation of all OCLC ISO-9000 procedures and the SDLC, as they pertain to their work unit.
  
  
  
  


• Ensures that project teams plan and participate in load, capacity, and performance analysis and/or testing.


• Represents OCLC’s position by participating on or leading relevant standards committees such as ISO, NISO, ACM, and IEEE. Leads the implementation of standards within OCLC systems.


• Identifies new opportunities with 3rd party solutions and techniques for OCLC applications with the ability to understand the impact and analyze the risk.


• Participates in major architectural reviews and plans.


• Other tasks as assigned.

Minimum qualifications:

• Master’s degree required plus 8 to 12 years experience at a high technical level of knowledge and experience.  (Equivalent experience without a Master’s degree is 10 to 14 years experience at a high technical level of knowledge and experience.)


• Has demonstrated a proven ability to provide corporate wide leadership in their area of expertise.


• Possesses specific industry expertise in one area such as application and deployment modernisation, user Interfaces, performance, or a single large OCLC system.


• Has the ability to implement industry standard programming techniques by mastering advanced fundamental software development concepts, practices, and procedures, and


• Has the ability to analyze and solve problems in existing systems.

Desired qualifications:

PhD. in Computer Science or related discipline

Working Conditions: Normal office environment.
