Purpose:

The Group Test Systems Manager will work with the Timken Power Systems (TPS) teams in the development, training, and optimization of test infrastructure, with a focus on test hardware standardization and software development. This person will develop testing capabilities for a variety of different equipment, including gearboxes, electric motors, and generators, as well as for integrated drivetrain systems.

The Group Test Systems Manager will develop and design new test capabilities as well as improve existing test frameworks in order to ensure that the needed test efficiency is achieved in conjunction with increasing & diversified production. They will also contribute to finding solutions to challenging problems by trading process methodologies, schedule constraints, and test coverage in determining and implementing test solutions.

This opportunity is home based when not on the road, with expected travel to be 50%+ of the time on average.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Designing and developing specific test systems using NI/LabVIEW and Bentley Nevada System One, including both hardware and software components.
  • Developing and implementing test plans for reliability, functionality, and compatibility testing.
  • Providing system architecture and subsystem designs for implementing system requirements.
  • Developing documentation including system requirements documents, system design documents, electrical drawings, and user guides.
  • Identifying, analyzing, and resolving system integration issues.
  • Providing technical leadership within complex and diverse test projects.
  • Assisting in the establishment of budgets and bid proposals.
  • Employing creative problem-solving techniques.
  • Managing development and implementation of new test system solutions from conception to delivery.
  • Collaborating with TPS personnel to identify opportunities for innovation and process improvements.
  • Participating in special projects and other duties as assigned by group management.
  • Manage strategic partner (supplier) relationships on a continuous basis to facilitate the successful testing and delivery of gearboxes, controls, and auxiliary & related equipment.
  • Manage the on-going testing of newly design and/or repaired equipment at any TPS facilities.
  • Oversee storage, preparation for testing, and installation test stand equipment.
  • Possess leadership experience in the design, operation, training and/or sustainability test equipment.

Required Skills and Experience


  • Bachelor's degree with 7+yrs. in Mechanical Engineering or related, hardware & software development - NI / LabView with 13+ years of experience (in lieu of a bachelor's degree).
  • Extensive training in Electrical Engineering and/or Controls Engineering.
  • Track record of significant accomplishment in advanced technical projects.
  • Proven ability to influence internal and external customers.
  • Expertise in test system development, implementation, and evaluation of test system technologies.
