General Summary of Position:


The Career Advisor will focus on the following primary activities:



  • Advise and support students from designated college(s) on career development matters, and provide limited alumni assistance

  • Design and facilitate career development workshops and programs, including a focus on scaling efforts to engage students in career programming

  • Collaborate with campus partners to support the career development of our students

  • Contribute to the administration of the department and ongoing marketing efforts



This position is contingent upon funding. This is a private foundation funded, temporary, full time, benefited position. Position funding timeframe is 2024-2027. Continued employment is contingent upon renewed funding.


Essential Job Duties:



Career Advising, Instruction & Programming:


Counsel, advise, educate and coach students and alumni on a wide range of career issues including, but not limited to, major selection, self-assessment, job search preparation, experiential learning opportunities, graduate school planning, career development and management, and career decisions. Administer and interpret vocational assessment tools. Develop and present workshops and seminars designed to build career development skills and career awareness. Write educational blogs. Teaching career development courses may be included.



Campus Relations & Collaborations:


Partner with academic and administrative departments to support students affiliated with those departments. Create collaborative opportunities to support career development. Customize career development content to best suit the relevant student populations.



Administration & Operations:


Maintain records, including advising notes, as appropriate. Review resumes submitted and ensure that event attendance is properly recorded. Assist with the development and review of departmental policies and procedures. Complete on-going and ad-hoc projects related to the work of the career advising team and the populations we serve. Assist with the development and review of departmental policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications/Required:



  • Demonstrated experience in career development, experiential education, student development, employer relations and/or talent acquisition Demonstrated experience in a career-related counseling or advising capacity



Career Advisor I = P15



  • Bachelor's degree AND at least 2 years of relevant experience


OR



  • Master's Degree in a relevant field AND some relevant experience



Career Advisor II = P16


Bachelor's degree AND at least 5 years of relevant experience


OR


Master's degree in a relevant field AND at least 2 years of relevant experience


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Career services experience in higher education is preferred.

  • Demonstrated communication skills (interpersonal, verbal and written)

  • Demonstrated ability to deliver career advising for diverse populations through individual, drop-in, and group appointments; workshops; and other programs.

  • Demonstrated ability to establish and develop relationships with clients as well as faculty and staff.

  • Demonstrated ability to use technology in work with clients as well as administrative work.

  • Demonstrated ability to initiate efforts for collaboration and delivery of services.

  • Candidate should be flexible to work evenings and occasional weekends, as needed

This is an SEIU 888 Professional Union position, Grade P15 or P16 depending on qualifications.
