Post Doctoral Fellow - Environmental Engineering and Earth Sciences

Clemson University: College of Engineering, Computing and Applied Sciences: Environmental Engineering & Earth Sciences

Location: Anderson, SC

Open Date: Sep 07, 2022

Description

A postdoctoral research associate position is available in the Department of Environmental Engineering and Earth Sciences at Clemson University (CU).

The new hire will work on funded projects funded by ESTCP, SERDP, and the Navy that involve the application of 14C assays and compound specific isotope analysis to evaluate degradation rate constants for chlorinated ethenes and 1,4-dioxane in groundwater. The research associate will be a key member of several project teams, which include participants from academia and consulting. The main objectives of the projects are to evaluate:

  1. The role of magnetic materials in drinking water aquifers to catalyze abiotic processes;
  2. The impact of modest heating on abiotic degradation rates;
  3. Biotic and abiotic degradation of 1,4-dioxane diffusing from clays; and
  4. The impact of co-contaminants of the biodegradation kinetics for 1,4-dioxane.

The research associate will have an opportunity to participate in project management, supervise graduate and undergraduate students, and participate in report and proposal writing.
