Job Description:

SUMMARY
The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) administers anesthesia, monitors patients vital signs, and oversees patient recovery from anesthesia. Assists with anesthesia-related medical and emergency situations such as airway maintenance and pulmonary ventilation. Compliance with rules and regulations of all applicable federal, state and local laws as well as PMHC policies and Medical Staff rules and regulations is a condition of employment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Incumbent must have the skills, ability and judgment to perform the following essential job duties and responsibilities with or without reasonable accommodation:
Selects and prescribes post-anesthesia medications or treatments to patients. Administers post-anesthesia medications or fluids to support patients cardiovascular systems. Evaluates patients post-surgical or post-anesthesia responses, taking appropriate corrective actions or requesting consultation if complications occur. Performs pre-anesthetic screenings, including physical evaluations and patient interviews and documents results. Selects, orders, and administers pre-anesthetic medications. Discharges patients from post-anesthesia care. Performs or evaluates the results of diagnostic tests such as radiographs and electrocardiograms. Manages patients airway or pulmonary status using techniques such as endotracheal intubation, mechanical ventilation, pharmacological support, respiratory therapy, and extubation. Monitors patients responses, including skin color, pupil dilation, pulse, heart rate, blood pressure, respiration, ventilation or urine output using invasive and noninvasive techniques. Performs or manages regional anesthetic techniques such as local, spinal, epidural, caudal, nerve blocks and intravenous blocks. Prepares prescribed solutions and administers local, intravenous, spinal, or other anesthetics following specified methods and procedures. Responds to emergency situations by providing airway management, administering emergency fluids or drugs, or using basic or advanced cardiac life support techniques. Selects, orders, or administers anesthetics, adjuvant drugs, accessory drugs, fluids, or blood products as necessary. Assesses patients medical histories to predict anesthesia response. Develops anesthesia care plans. Obtains informed consent from patients for anesthesia procedures. Selects, prepares, or uses equipment, monitors, supplies, or drugs for the administration of anesthetics. Calibrates and tests anesthesia equipment. Disassembles and cleans anesthesia equipment. Inserts arterial catheters or perform arterial punctures to obtain blood samples. Inserts intravenous catheters as needed/appropriate. Instructs nurses, residents, interns, students, or other staff on topics such as anesthetic techniques, pain management, and emergency responses. Requests anesthesia equipment repairs, adjustments, or safety tests. Assists with development and maintenance of appropriate policies and procedures as related to anesthesia services. Ensures proper and timely documentation to meet DNV standards.

Directly responsible to the CEO.

The CRNA must have good clarity of vision, manual dexterity, and the ability to hear alarms/telephone/normal speaking voice.

While performing the duties of this job, employees occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to the risk of electrical shock.
The level of risk of exposure to blood borne pathogens is Classification I, as outlined in the Hepatitis B Vaccine Program Policy.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate

REQUIRED EDUCATION
Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Post-graduate degree in Nurse Anesthesia.

COMPETENCIES/CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Current RN licensure in the state of Nebraska. Current APRN-CRNA licensure in the state of Nebraska. Current BLS, ACLS, NRP, and PALS certification.
