SUMMARY
Lead vehicle performance and emissions development projects involving ICE, HEV, and BEV testing on powertrain and chassis dynamometer testbeds
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Independently lead vehicle and powertrain dynamometer test cell activities with work instructions and test plans that can be used by the technicians and junior engineers to properly set up and execute the scope of a given vehicle development programs
Conduct detailed thermodynamic analyses of powertrain performance and emissions test results, prepare technical reports, papers and presentations based on those results:
* P-V diagram analysis for combustion burn rates, mean effective pressure determination, etc.
* Heat transfer analysis for emissions aftertreatment light off assessment, powertrain cooling systems heat rejection, etc.
* Emissions aftertreatment system performance and efficiency analysis and HEV system optimization using regulated certification drive cycles
* BEV system performance, range, and charging characteristics
Concisely summarize test results and data to a reportable format, make recommendations / direct future test plans based on information in these reports
Ensure that the test equipment used during each powertrain test program that he / she is involved with is properly calibrated, meets customer accuracy and repeatability requirements
Analyze ICE, HEV, & BEV performance and emissions technology trends and market demand to plan projects and understand customer requirements that will drive future business
Lead and participate in department continuous improvement activities, including process improvement, efficiency improvement and development of data analysis techniques
Provide technical contributions in a project team environment and mentor less experienced engineers/interns
Collaborate with department manager and / or program management staff to determine engineering feasibility, cost, and timing for vehicle powertrain development quotes
Assist with quoting activities for customer requests involving gasoline, diesel or electrified powertrain development testing
Maintain a working knowledge of new engine or electrified powertrain testing technologies that may improve testing operations and increase department efficiency
Communicate effectively with project management staff to ensure that project budget, timing, and quality requirements of his / her portion of the program scope are being satisfied
Prepare project reports, in Microsoft PowerPoint or Word format, for management, clients or potential clients
Employees duties are not limited to those stated above, but are inclusive of any tasks assigned by supervisor/manager
