As a Senior Principal Data Analyst in our Acute Care & Monitoring business unit, you will provide scientific leadership for new technology and product development.

The Senior Principal Data Analyst should possess extensive knowledge and experience in the methodology and process of scientific exploration, as well as technology development for medical devices. You will work closely with clinicians to understand and address clinical problems. In addition to technical expertise, a strong background in physiology, patient monitoring, and/or hemodynamic monitoring is preferred. Experience in early technology development for medical devices is highly desired.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING AND OTHER DUTIES MAY BE ASSIGNED:


  • Lead and oversee complex data analysis projects within the Research and Technology department, from inception to completion.

  • Develop and implement data models and analytical methodologies to support early-stage research and technology development.

  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including researchers, engineers, and clinicians, to understand and address emerging clinical problems.

  • Interpret and present analytical findings to senior management and other stakeholders, providing clear and actionable insights.

  • Conduct data analytics for clinical trials, ensuring robust analysis and interpretation of trial data to guide research and development decisions.

  • Mentor and guide junior data analysts, fostering their development and enhancing their analytical skills.

  • Ensure the accuracy, integrity, and security of data throughout the analysis process.

  • Stay current with industry trends and advancements in data analysis tools and techniques, applying this knowledge to drive innovation in early-stage research.

  • Apply business acumen to make informed trade-off decisions between time-to-market, product costs, reliability, features, and budget constraints.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

MUST HAVE: MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in Data Science, Statistics, Engineering, or a related field.

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:

SR PRINCIPAL LEVEL:


  • Bachelor's degree required with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience OR

  • Advanced degree with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience.

SPECIALIZED SKILLS OR EXPERIENCE:


  • Extensive experience in the commercialization of medical devices, from opportunity definition to market launch, including partnership development with clinicians, vendors, and key external partners.

  • Demonstrated ability to distill complex clinical issues into actionable insights through front-line experiences (ORs, clinics, field) and customer discovery processes.

  • Experience in setting up and running animal studies, clinical research studies, and clinical trials across multiple locations.

  • At least 3 years of experience in determining impactful clinical needs that meet the strategic and organizational goals of the unit.

  • 8-10 years of experience working in a matrix management structure

  • Flexibility in working hours to accommodate collaboration across geographies.

NICE TO HAVE

  • Qualifications:

    • Degrees in Physics, Applied Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related fields are highly preferred.

    • Experience in practical front-end engineering, solving significant clinical gaps in both existing and novel markets.


  • Management

    • Experience managing junior and senior engineers including vendors, and manufacturers - creating a mission driven culture across groups.

    • Experience in financial modeling, budget management and forecasting

    • Experience in assembling and managing a team of experts with varied domain expertise.

    • Experience mentoring reports to nurture their interest, understand their strengths, areas of improvement and goals.


  • Clinical expertise

    • Strong background in clinical study development and execution

    • Experience in rigorous iterative product development tied with clinical experimentation, validation, and feedback.

    • Strong interest in human anatomy and physiology

    • Understanding of the human cardiovascular and respiratory systems

    • Ability to grasp medical concepts with ease and depth.


  • Business acumen

    • Familiarity with business model and plan development and iteration

    • Successfully facilitated funding from donor organizations or within the organization for personal or corporate projects

    • Track record of conducting market analysis and customer discovery leading to new project areas

    • Experience in value-based healthcare models

    • Expertise in patent landscape analysis and the patent application process.

    • Familiarity with FDA regulations and ISO standards in medical device development and IEC standards for software development


  • Technological expertise

    • Strong background in human-centered design and user-centered design

    • Ability to distill core engineering principles for application in early-stage product concepts

    • Experience in practical front-end engineering, solving significant clinical gaps in both existing and novel markets.

    • Experience with model development and simulation studies

    • Experience in lean product development and agile development methods

    • Firm understanding of mathematics and linear algebra used in computational modeling.

    • Experience with Machine Learning, and Deep Learning networks

    • Experience with digital signal processing

    • Experience with Python, C++, and Matlab coding

    • Experience in medical device productization - quality system management, regulatory submissions, manufacturing, and iterative product development

    • Application of techniques such as Reinforcement Learning, Transferred Learning, Computer Vision, Image Segmentation, and PCA


  • Organizational and soft skills

    • Proven track record in developing relationships and collaborating with an international set of varied partners.

    • Communication skills that bridge varying roles within the company, hierarchy within the organization, and external partners

    • Entrepreneurial mindset - the ability to evaluate, initiate, and execute new directions for the business unit and company, leading projects and assembling teams to execute on reaching outcomes.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$152,000.00 - $228,000.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
